Lookin at buyin a nearly brand spankin new Schwitzer S400, heres the specs on it, what ya think?

TURBOCHARGER PART # RE506836

TURBOCHARGER MODEL # S400

CONDITION: NEW/ TAKE OFF (RUN FOR 15MIN TO TEST)

COMPRESSOR WHEEL DIAMETER: 71MM

EXHAUST WHEEL DIAMETER: 88MM

EXHAUST AR: 132

I did some quick digging, off of a John Deere Genset, has the Deere logo cast on the comp housing:rofl:

I dunno, maybe as a single for now? A/R might be too loose? Or twined with the IHI? Might make a real nice hi-psi charger with a bigger one up front?

Just need some opinions!

is the 71mm the comp inducer?? If so its similar to my charger but with a slightly bigger turbine wheel.

your definately gonna want a tighter housing.

otherwise its similar to mine, most likely doesnt have an ETT wheel though, but I am satisfied with my S400 for the price. Mine lights at 2100RPM and a single CP3 can never get enough fuel to it to make it smoke at all once it spools up

Ya 71mm inducer, I know the A/R is pretty big, i think the IHI outta get it spooled up. Lag dosnt bother me, the way the turbo-socks and hotpipe insulators are lookin, i'd wrap it all up aswell and that should do some good, if its a dead horse i can always change housings. As im playin it in my head, might make a fine set of twins with the IHI for now and basis for the small charger in a monster twinset for a built motor? Some of you guys out there are spooling much bigger chargers with a stocker! :)

On edit: Its prolly loose enough to possibly get away with no wastegate?

^^^i believe hes right, might want to make some more changes or just look for a different charger.

Twinning it with the stocker would be cool. I was going to do this but due to the condition that my stocker was in I opted not to

i agree i would choose a larger charger for a twin setup but i would stick with a 1.32 ar untill spooling becomes an issue no sence choking down the exaust system unless you have to or run a smaller a/r and wastegate it . but it would work as a twin setup with what you have just might not be ideal .

I think this is the same turbo DMAXVAZ (??) used for his twin setup. I believe he upgraded to a race housing.

Might check with him.

THATS WHAT I STARTED OUT WITH (JOHN DEERE TURBO) AND IT did just fine. i put a 80mm/110mm ett comp wheel in it and it does awsome. is it selling on ebay for 400 bucks? saul g? its where i got mine. i would buy it if i were you; and upgrade the comp wheel later. anyways it comes with the race cover on it if its the jd one

check out forced inductions, do it right the first time. You can get an S475 for $600 but you may as well spend the extra money and get the S480.

Well, after some talkin with dmaxvaz, I decided to get it:eek: I have seen FI's chargers and yes, very nice stuff! BUT I am on a tight budget to say the least, and with a couple of tricks up the sleeve, this should be very competitive to the FI S480 for less $$$ and this is also a "tested" twin setup with the IHI. Vaz has done the hard work already and I trust his word. As much as I like to do my own innovating and trailblazing, I'll follow the leader for my 1st compound twins! This will be a great learning experiance and I look forward to it! As for the install and fab...Thats all on me, and thats great, Im a pretty good fabricator/welder and half-ass'ed isnt in my vocabulary! So im going to make do with what i can, always have! I wished i could afford trick expensive turbos but not as of now! I already am wrapped up in gettin the custom/bodywork/paint finished and allthough most of the purchases are done, still have a ton of work to do. My "Plan-B" is still in the works and that is a big one on the list to do, thats gonna cost me dearly to get that done, frickin Lenco/Bruno stuff is outragouslly expensive. I have the Lenco already but need 2 more gear sections for it.

Thanks to all for your words of wisdom! Its greatly appriciated! This is why I love you guys!

Twin it. You wont have a problem getting it to light. Mine is a s475 w/ 1.32 a/r and it spools just as quick as it would stock. A lot is in the tuning.

Congrats on your purchase.:)

Thanks fellas! Time to compile the additional parts list:D Glad we got some new shop equipment coming! Got a plasma cutter and a 48" box/pan sheetmetal brake comin! Already have a decent amount of other tools at my disposal;) I wish i had a lathe and an endmill:eek: I'd never sleep! I already have decided to fab up a nice airbox;)

OH 1 more question....Hows the sizing of S-series chargers work? I know its an S400 but since its a 71mm comp inducer, does that make it an S471? or S400/71???? Like an S485 has an 85mm wheel right:confused:

Thanks gang!

Oh, of course! I know full and well the risks, as bad as it sounds, im pretty sure im going to kill this motor sooner or later, im ok with that. Its gonna take some restraint but, im gonna do my best to keep the tuning on the sunny side of the fence and play nice:D Its no longer a DD, I dont tow, dont use it for any normal truck uses. Its now becoming my toy/cruiser/racer and once the bodywork is done, it wont be out of the garage less its nice out.
So, game-on, "Team Borrowed Time"

IF YOU GO TO FI website, they call it a s472. its really a 71.5mm wheel and they just round up.
