Im thinking one or more of my injectors have failed. Ive got an 02 lb7 so it fits the bill. My MPG from sunday until today dropped from 18 to 10  and Im blowing a little smoke at idle and a good bit if I get on it. especially freeway speeds. Luckily I just bought the truck used so I have a 36k/3year warranty on everything so Ill just take it in. but since im new to the scene I want to get experienced opinions before they try to tell me it was a fuel filter and refuse to swap my injectors. thanks guys

I would just take it in to a GM dealership if its under warrenty

Balance rate test is used to determine if you inj are in spec
but you would need EFI or a handheld programmer that reads them or better yet a tech 2

okay that makes sense I haven't put a programmer of any sort yet due to warranty purposes.

my concern is the dealer closest to me has a fresh tech. He has a grand 2 months of diesel experience. Whoo hoo so do I.

so by chance does anyone in here hail from the Albuquerque, NM area or surrounding cities that knows a good mechanic that will do warranty work?

Not to hijack the thread, but if Balance Rates are all within spec, what else fails with these injectors. 4 gallons of coolant in 3 weeks I've had to replace. No fuel in oil or coolant in oil..... No coolant on the ground and none anywhere on the block. Surge tank isn't pressurizing..... Any ideas.

So I haven't had the chance to get to the dealer yet. But I checked my oil and after it had been sitting a few hours it smelled like there was diesel in the oil. But I had to drive home so I checked when I got there and it smells less very little like diesel now. I'm still smokin pretty good. Mostly when I get on it. I changed my fuel filter again last night to make sure that wasn't it. And still no real change. Still sound like an injector issue? My exhaust doesn't smell too strong but more so than usual. I'm just not entirely sure what symptoms I am looking for. And the dealer I have to take it to is about an hour away so before I take it and they look at it and say its fine I want to make sure I'm not going and paying for diagnostics for no reason. Thanks again

Some customers may comment on the Service Engine Soon light becoming illuminated. Upon investigation, the technician may find DTCs P0087, P0093 or P1093. Additional customer comments may include a lack of power, a fuel smell on the oil indicator (dipstick), fuel in the engine oil, fuel coming out of the crankcase breather, the engine cranks but does not run, or a hard start condition.

mine was a faulty EGR cooler and cracked injector sleeves..luckily no cracked pistons or washed cylinders (that we could see) replaced under warranty a year ago and has held up under more power since. i just ditched the EGR system finally, if you need a very new-like cooler, let me know ill give you a hell of a deal.

How'd you get rid of it?? Worth the time for me?? Require any new parts??
EGR pump has failed several times on me. It's ticking pretty bad right now. Whole EGR system seems to be a cluster fk.

it's definitely worth it IMO, I did it while changing the CP3 and turbo so i was in there anyways but all you really NEED to do is make blocker plates for the intake riser and the up-pipe, route the heater core outlet line to the steel coolant return pipe that is on the pass. side of the top of motor. I took all the solenoids off of the fuel filter housing area and you'd need your tune altered (if it isn't done already). you can get much more intricate with it all, there are a lot of options. I cut the EGR inlet off of the up-pipe and welded it shut so it was smooth, I also decided to just cut the EGR butterfly out of the intake riser with a dremel and I took the EGR vacuum pump off the generator cover and ripped all the old vacuum lines out. all in all, to do it yourself from scratch, expect it to take approx 4-10 hours, depending on how in-depth you go to make it perfect.
