So I recently had my trans rebuilt with a triple disc and took her to the track for the first time sunday. As she sits she's got EFI live, 5" down pipe back exhaust, sleeves and half of a PPE steering brace kit (got a bad heim joint with kit waiting for new one). I ran a fastest of 13.8 at 100mph. I'd like to get her in the lower 13's without spending too much more for now if possible. I have leveling keys in her now that are coming out this week and hopefully get my other heim by this weekend. I have a downpipe that I haven't put on yet but not sure if it'll help enough to be worth the hassle of installing it. I have the same tuning I've had for 4 plus years now and I'm pretty sure a retune now that the trans is built would help. I plan on getting a lift pump and trac bars soon. I ran only one pass in tow/haul and was actually slower, could've been my reaction time or letting off the throttle because she got squirrely off the line but is it usually faster to run tow/haul? Any other help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance -Garrett

Get some built trans max effort tunes and a lift pump. Those 2 alone should get you into the 12s. A ppe boost valve will help also. Drop your torsion bars down to help with launching. Some guys take the bolts out all the way and some lower them enough to give you a slight negative cv angle.

Thanks guys, the tune on it is a "trans safe" tune because I got it a long time ago before my trans was built. I'm pretty sure there's quite a bit of room for improvement on the tuning end. I know the leveling keys are killing my CV angles so the stock ones are going back in. I have to bring the rear down though once that's done because I can't stand a raked truck and believe me she's got quite a bit of rake with the stockers turned down.

Just give Rob a call and tell him you're ready to step things up. He'll fix you right up. Let him know if you are going to install a lift pump or not.

X2 on getting max effort tunes, my truck is night and day from trans safe to max effort. You will need a lift pump and trac bars will help keep you planted on launch

Got an email into Rob about a retune. What kind of tires are good at the track, cheap, and fit on stock 16' wheels? I ran my stock wheels with tiny tires on this time but I was pretty much waiting for one to blow out the whole time.

Find some 275 Toyos or Nittos. They work well on the PY0s. If you'd do some searching in this section of the forum, you'd find all sorts of info to help you. ;)

When you say "275" tires do you mean 275/75-16's?

I'm seeing a lot of mixed reviews on the PPE pumps, but theyre all from a while ago. Are these pumps getting the job done or should I drop the coin on an AD or FASS?

What are the beefs with the PPE pump?

IIRC, it's just a pump, no extra filtration or H2O separator. All the other pumps mentioned pump as much fuel or more and also filter the fuel down to a finer micron level while also separating water as well as removing intrinsic air bubbles and returning any foamy fuel back into the tank through the filler neck, giving the supply line a "solid" supply of fuel to the CP3.
Running a dual filter lift pump will allow you to bypass or remove the factory filter, which can also be a restriction point at higher power levels.
I also remember reading the PPE pump is louder than the others.

What are the beefs with the PPE pump?

They are good pumps along with the airdog raptor. Here is the issue. The factory filter is only good to around 40gph range. So putting on most lift pumps is way to much and can cause filtering issues.

Here is what I am going to do with mine. I ordered a airdog raptor 150 and a cat adaptor from underground. I am going to run the cat filter 1R-0750 (the cat 1R-0749 don't flow enough) in place of factor filter. Then I am going to get a napa 4770 filter base and just run a basic fuel/water fuel filter next to the airdog.

There are 2 reasons I am doing this way. First off it gets cold here so I want my 2 micron filter in engine bay to help prevent gelling. Second off I can not find a filter the size of the ones on a airdog 2 that can flow more then 60gpm.

Airdogs have a lifetime warranty unlike ppe. Only downfall to the raptor is its not a flow through pump. So if it fails your done.(I carry a spare splice to by-pass it just in case.

I was going to go with the PPE because of the price and I also have seen problems with friends AD and FASS setups freezing in winter. I thought about doing the cat filter adapter also.

I'd stay away from PPE. You get what you pay for. If your not wanting filters I like the bd pump. But I've gone through 3 of them but bd has warrantied them free of charge. The latest pump is a new design that is t supposed to have the same wiring problems.
