I take it you haven't actually done a set of injectors on an LLY+. I can do a set of LB7's in about 6 hours, and I just got done doing an LLY that took me about 5 hours. Other than pulling the valve covers off, there isn't much less work involved. Factor in that a set of BOSCH LB7 injectors can be had for $1700 VS the $2000 for a set of LLY's or $2400 for LBZ's, and I'll keep my LB7. And like has been stated, you don't hear of that many injector problems on the new BOSCH LB7 injectors, most of what you hear is what people went through before the 09 revision, junk rebuilds that are not BOSCH units, or hear say.

with the float between positive 6 and 15 I would look at that cylinder and since you are adding fuel. clogged nozzle if you are lucky, bent rod worst case.
you could just pull nozzle and flush out

kspent, in all honesty i think you should just dump some coin on "new"bosch exergy injectors and be happy. the prob most of the time is that people buy cheap remans and end up down the same path again with bad injectors.

but then again and lbz will make you happy
The first time I replaced the injectors I knew nothing of the difference in quality in one vs the other. At the time a part was a part to me, and problems have ensued since then.

I'm still running stock turbo and single cp3 so I'm almost ruling bent rod out of the picture. I'm just not seeing it being a worn ball seat either with it adding fuel and having that much fluctuation and every time I start the truck the max level goes to changes. I think I'm going to rip all 8 out and send them to exergy and have them tested and go from there. At that point I'll only be down another $400 and I'll make a decision from there.

Just cross referenced the balance rates and firing order. The one with the bad rate is #3 but #6 is -2 and #1 is -1.6 and if the fuel rate were that much off with that injector I'd expect the other 2 to be pulling back a lot more fuel. Looks like its time to do a compression test and replace the glowplugs while I'm at it. A burnt valve or piston is certainly a possibility I suppose. I have buried a 1600* egt gauge a few times but it was only for short bursts so idk...

A thought that crossed my mind last night, could the cup be lifted in cylinder 3 causing that cylinder to lose compression, therefore ramping up the fuel in that cylinder to compensate for lost compression?

depends, you loosing coolant?

IMHO, throw a good set of injectors in it and keep truckin. throwin a boroscope down the injector holes wouldnt be a bad idea either

A little, but I also have a small leak where the coolant pipe meets the oil cooler. I think my next order of business is going to be a compression test and see what that turns up.
