I pulled the muffler and everything behind it off and it was loud but did not seem to drone to bad but then I put a 5" turn down so it would not blow right on my bags and then it droned pretty bad but I delt with it. After the second turbo the drone went away but still sounds mean and whistles. I would try pulling the muffler back off and try it. My buddy did a muffler delete on his lbz and still ran it out the back and it did not sound much louder.

My truck has nothing but a muffler and I will have to say I hardly ever hear her. Except in tunnels, lol. Unlike you younger guys, which I actually do understand, I love quite trucks and low flying planes!

There is a lot to be said for being under the radar, the less offensive one in the crowd.....the one that "got away" so in truth I'm grateful for you kids. Run that bitch loud, smoke whatever you want so I can glide on by while they attend to you!

Mine, with muff only, has less noise than my first car a 67 VW bug! Amazing ten times the power hardly any noise! Yea Dmax!

My 5'' magnaflow with a muffler was super quiet at first but I believe they are fiberglass packed because now it has a nice drone to it that gets really old after about 3 hours of driving

Run a downpipe only.... that'll make you change your mind about loud real quick. I tried.

Been running mine cat delete with a turn down since 07. When I had twins it was 5" down pipe with a turndown. Everybody says its loud, but I wear hearing aids so... Only time it sounds loud to me is at WOT, and I piss off the cat that's hiding in my turbo.

I did it hauling boats around here and Arizona ..... truck sounded like shit running up a grade with only a DP for an exhaust.... pissing off the cat in the turbo is about the right analogy to the racket it makes :D

Like everyone says, get rid of the muffler and see how it sounds. Want more? Turn down.

Still not enough? Running just a downpipe is not really that loud on a stock trubo (I did it and liked it, except for heating up my torsion bar something fierce).

Get up-pipes and a turbo, THAT will make it loud. Tow flow up-pipes and a S371. Got a Diamond Eye Quiet-Tone exhaust (with the muffler and special resonator). Sounds nice at freeway speeds, but when I open it up, I can't have the windows down without hurting my ears. I suspect it is not even legal. I keep considering adding a 2nd muffler to quiet it down...

All in all, I actually liked the stock exhaust best for sound. It is quiet enough you can hear the tires squeal in pain when you mash the skinny pedal. Now I only know they spin because the rear end wanders around. :(

Do a turbo delete mod. That'll make it louder!
Explain how exhaust noise "translates into unused/unharnessed power" and "unburnt fuel" ??
I can't say anything about the unburnt fuel, but noise is a form of energy. An engine that runs quieter is using more of the energy from the fuel and will theoretically make more power. That doesn't mean running a muffler or a quieter exhaust in general will make your truck more powerful, because that is just converting the energy into another form. That said, I don't agree with anything coco said.
