First off I am not bashing either parties on this thread! Nor do I want to hear any bashing.

I have a aftermarket remote start, and Kenwood TV in the truck. I got a tune over the weekend and mid way through the install of the tune it got kicked off for some reason. Remove the fuse for the TV and tried it again but it would not accept. The ECM was pulled out of the truck for a "Bench tune" at that time. Installed it on another LLY and it started up and ran good.

Put it into my truck and it would not crank no longer then 3 seconds then it just dies!

Question is what could be causing to no crank longer then 3 seconds? I have checked all fuses under the hood and under the panel on the side of the dash. I have also unplugged the "brain" of the remote start and it did the same thing. I am COMPLETELY lost as to what it causing it to not start... Any input is very welcome!

Vehicle Anti-Theft System. If it started in the other truck, it may still be learned to its VIN. Is the security light on? You might have to do a VATS relearn. Or you can disable VAYS in the tune.

3 replys and 113 views. I'm flat out of ideas as to what could be going wrong.

I've removed both boxes from my remote start and same results.

Usually the crank three seconds and stop indicates that the ECM is not seeing a connection in the harness.

It would be worth double checking to make sure both connectors are clean and secure on the ECM, if you haven't yet.

Were the bale connectors on top of the engine touched at all? They can push pins out and loose contact periodically when used.

Triple checked the connectors on the ECM, even connected it outside of the holding place and got the same results. Even checked the harness ontop of the engine. Nothing.

Just disconnected the battery's for a while to see if that'll do anything.

Talking with a George, Big Dipper, and he said to have the BCM reflashed. So I'm going to have that done this week. Hope it works.

The ECM and BCM are talking to each other. All fuses are working and my instrument cluster is not responding. We can communicate with the ECM and BCM but can not communicate with the cluster. COMPLETELY stomped on what to do!?

Did you get power for your Kenwood through inside fuse panel at the corner of the dash? Check fuses there. I had a problem with the cluster and getting power there.

We did a continuity check on all fuses, on the side of the dash and under the hood. Nothing came up bad.

Thinking about unplugging the Kenwood and getting the remote start removed.

I just can't understand why all of a sudden it does this with any warning signs.

How does this remote start work? Through the stereo? Did you get the proper harness for the stereo? I was told there were different ones available, is it possible you got the wrong one for a diesel? Having one pin different can cause havoc in your instruments.

The remote start only goes into the ignition wire and that's it. It was installed back in October/November time.

Radio was installed by a stereo shop back in October/November, never have had a problem with it at all.

Maybe im not understanding this, you had these accessories and everything worked, and then you went to get a new tune, and thats when you experienced this problem? Or you went to have a tune and the accessories put in/on at the same time/day?

Everything has been in the truck for months, just got the tune on Sunday. That's when all hell broke lose.

Now the ECM has been in another truck and that truck started and ran, put it back into my truck and I only get the 3 seconds of cranking.
