Hey i just got a new 2008 dmax and i bought efi live and i literally have no idea where to start i want to start getting more horsepower gains but i dont want to mess up the driveability. anybody got any advice?

go out and buy a spare ecm to tune with. then you can put the stocker in when you go in for service.
i got it from the efi live website it came in the mail with absolutely nothing... what do you mean when you say buy a different ecm?
LMM have a programming history feature where the dealer can tell if you have flashed your truck's ECM. The only way currently to not have any history on you ECM is to purchase a new ECM and flash it with efi so that your stocker does not show the history.
the only issue i see with doing the ecm swap is you have to find one and then have someone with a tech 2 flash it with programming to your truck. efi can full flash the lbz/lmm ecm yet as far as i know. but like kat said if guy tripp has them i know he has a tech 2 and they may be flashed already. call him. dont risk your warranty on a foolish tune when you have options. remember your warranty is 100,000 miles.
