Need Help!! Transmission Leak

Can someone help me to determine what this little clip thing is and why its leaking fluid. Its turning into a pretty bad leak

Looks like front seal or converter leaking.

that little clip thing will pop out. Is this tranny been pulled apart before?

The transmission hasn't been pulled apart to my knowledge

Is there a way to determine if it is the seal leaking or the converter is leaking without pulling the transmission?

no i don't believe so, reason i asked if it had been out is because you can also get a leak from the bolts behind the converter going into the pump. I have seen leaks from that as well . Either way your gonna have to pull the trans

have the same problem on my 04. Mechanic says that it a leaking gasket and while I am at it may need to change the pump.

I have done a few of those jobs. Pull Trans replace Front Seal and Bolts around front pump along with oring around pump. Also when you have T-case out think about the pump rub fix if you have not done this. Make sure you replace the front seal on T-case once you remove it for the trans job.
