If you clear the codes, which ones come back immediately?

Sounds like a loose connection somewhere. Are you sure you hooked up the PSM and solenoid connectors up correctly??

does the PRND321 display work? If you read live data from the TCM what does the NSBU logic do? See if the solenoid states change when you shift it between reverse and drive.

which shift solenoids light up when you shift out of park?

You might need a tech 2, I dont know if efilive will read those PIDs.

Read out the PSM and NSBU logic with efilive (or a tech 2). Not to disagree with mike, my own guess is something wrong with the PSM or the wiring to the PSM, or a maybe a shift valve is stuck unstroked. (more wild guesses) You are sure the internal filter has a good seal correct so the trans isnt losing prime or anything??

put efilive or a tech 2 on it and make sure the solenoids are changing, and the PSM is showing the appropriate change in status.

if you jack the rear wheels up and lock it in 1,2,3,4,5 gear manually with efilive what do the rear wheel do? Do they twitch back and forth or move smoothly and effortlessly in forward?

The prdn321 display works once i cleared the codes only rear wheel speed sensor and the backup lamps codes came back I think those other codes came up because the battery died while working on nthe truck and i had to jump start it
the rear wheel speed sensor code has been popping up for a long time.
Duratothemax Thanks for the info and taking the time to think of things it could be,i've about ran out of ideas and patience.

The reason Im not really convinced its a communication problem is the modules that threw the Uxxxx loss of comms codes arent really related to the TCM. That and they are history codes, so the diagnostics passed during the last ignition cycle. (maybe they were set when you disconnected the batteries when you put the trans back in??) Even if there was a communication problem with the TCM I cant really see how it would cause this issue?? The NSBU wiring is all discrete; nothing goes through the data bus. Only problem really a loss of comms would result in is inability to read codes from the TCM, a loss of PRND321 display, a loss of the trans temp gauge, and the doors would not automatically lock when you put the truck in drive.

can efilive read out the pressure switch manifold states and shift solenoid status?? You might need a tech 2 to further diagnose this.

it sounds like its hydrolicly stuck in reverse and when you camand other gears with efi its sending pressure to both passages reverse and the camanded gear , my guess is based on the fact that pressure seems a problem when you manually select gears , the thing throwing me for a loop is that everything works fine in limp mode ? but i would think if it was doing what my theory was it would tie up not slip ? i know i didnt help much i guess just thinking out loud

I dont think its hydraullically stuck in reverse because he said when he unplugs the TCM and it goes into hydraulic default, it has drive and reverse.

He needs a tech 2 to scan the TCM. EFILive isnt going to help because it only shows a limited number of TCM PIDs

I'll go along with the lint theory. Did you stuff the VB in your pocket before you reinstalled it every time?
