Or anyone else that likes a little brain teaser. Somehow after rebuilding my trans I ended up with only reverse, but the weird thing is it has reverse in every gear even neutral. the first time i tested it out it threw a couple of codes p0841, is the only one i remembered but the others were also p08xx codes. any way i dropped the pan took the valve body back apart checked it out made sure nothing was stuck or messed up all seemed well. the only thing i found weird was the little pin that moves the valve that moves when you shift was bent a little, enough to see that it was bent though. I staightend it out as strait as i could and put everything back together. filled the fluid back up and still it only has reverse:cussing: This time it doesnt throw any codes. I replaced the nsbu switch still nothing. so the wierd thing is if i unplug the main wiring harness it goes into limp mode and it goes into drive and goes fowards and goes into reverse in reverse. If anyone has any ideas I need help, anyway. And as always I wanna thank Mike for all the help he,s given me.I wish I was 4000 miles to the south.

wierd. What if you unplug the TCM completely and try putting it in reverse and drive? Do you still only have reverse?

EDIT: nvmind didnt see you already tried that. So the truck drives fine in forward and reverse (albeit only in 3rd gear) when its in hydraulic default. Sounds like a TCM or other wiring problem IMHO...

When you disconnect main wire harness from the back of the Alli you have taken the electronics out of the picture. You will be in limp mode. The fact that your truck goes forward now tells me you have an electrical problem. It would be good to put a Tech 2 on it and watch the sensors and comands and see if you spot anything. I have never had one with reverse only no matter what position the shift lever is in.

Yes because you have an internal mode switch instead of external NSBU.

Mike I think its because the 6-speed TCM has something to do with the security/VATS on the new trucks. A 6-speed truck WILL crank with the TCM disconnected. It just wont start.

The internal mode switch logic is identical to a 5-speed NSBU so Im not sure if thats what makes the difference? ie, a 5-speed NSBU will properly control a 6-speed trans and vice versa. The 4 "signal" wires are grounded in the exact same logic. Except the "3" logic on a 5-speed trans is interperated as "manual" on a 6-speed truck.

Ill try to do some more reading on it because im curious. My truck acted the same way when I plugged a 6-speed TCM into it. It would crank and fire for a split second and stall, just like a security issue.

Things I learned, after taking out valve body and messing with it again.
1. No matter how many times u take out the valve body your tranny still might not work.
2. shifts into reverse even in park.
3.will go forwards when you lock it into gear with efi live, but it seems like it is slipping real bad.
4.when u lock it into first gear it goes backwards.
5. when u lock it into second it shifts into gear and goes forwards but slips
6. when u lock it in third u can feel it shift out of second gear or whatever it is in on no.5,but still slips about the same as before.
7.when u lock it into fourth it shifts again still slips but feels like a more firm shift and has a little more power.
8. fifth seemed the same as second and third.
9. when it is in reverse it has full power and feels like normal 500 horse power reverse, but when it goes in reverse in other gears, (nd321) it does not feel like it has as much power and seems like it is slipping but not as bad as locked in gear with efi.
10.when locked into gear with efi i could also lock the converter with the lock up option could feel it lock, but i really didnt mess with it.
11.tried to mess with the seliniods they didnt do any thing but im not sure what to turn off or on?
12.I think I'm learning patience also:rofl: and maybe i should learn how to drive in reverse better

the fact that it goes into revers with full power would it be safe to say the
converter is working ok?
