Had the truck on the hottest tune for logging purposes, i think I heard a slight pop/clunk, and now the turbo (stock i think) is making a terrible whine sound.

I pulled the intake off the 475, and there is slight side to side play but spins freely. The stocker spins freely, but will not freewheel. No grinding at all, no in/out shaft play.

Turbo bearings? Normal sounds? I have had the twin in for about 3 weeks, and have never heard this whine before.

Max boost after is 45 psi. Not sure what it was before.

Any ideas???

Besides the fact that it shouldn't sound like that, it sounds kind of cool. Sounds a bit like a supercharger to me.

I don't know how much side to side play is allowed for a 475, but I would think none or extremely little. Your stock turbo has the same characteristics as mine, so that sounds normal.

Hopefully Trent will see this, as he knows tons about turbos, and should know your setup very well.

Thanks Diesel Technology Source, you were a big help!

Just went out and did a 4wd boost/brake lock.

The whine comes on at 17-18 psi. Will wait till tomorrow for a friend/daylight to look for the leaking culprit.

Hopefully this takes care of the issue!!!

Sanded both mating surfaces with 36 grit (give sealant something to hold to) and used permatex "Right stuff" or great stuff, cant remember which. Rec by Trent, so should work better than ultra copper.

Went for a ride after letting the stuff dry for 8 hrs, and it sounds normal!!

Thanks for all the help again guys!!!
