you d-max guys would get much more out of a 4L80E if you looked into it a bit more, than an alli or a dodge tranny.......
i know who can build one to handle over 3000HP and 2700lbs of TQ

for less than you think!!:cool2:

perhaps but can they hold it in a 6000 plus pound truck.the 4l80e was discussed andBuck decided he didnt want to beta test an unproven diesel race tranny.thus the dodge unit was fabbed into place...

The overdrive section in the 4L80 is a very weak link.

AND this continues to be a reoccuring theme as well... how is it that they hold behind 2500rwhp/1200+rwtq gas engines in race cars??? do they not use the OD?

What is your opinion on the 4L80/85 in a 4wd application such as sled pulling where the most it would be in would be 3rd or 1:1. They have lockup convertors, right?

Most of them do not use o/d. The 4L80 converter is a p/s and does not work well for racing; it needs an Allison converter for sled pulling and they are available from Precision and Suncoast.
As far as comparing gas power and diesel power; look at the tq tables and see where each one makes power and then you will know what the difference is.

Those cars weigh in at probably 3200 lbs max....vehicle weight makes all the difference in the world.
A built Allison would probably last with Keith's motor if it was in a lightweight car....but it's not.

I'm waiting on the 12L200

It's supposed to have Magic Fingers like a hourly motel room bed...

12 speeds and 2000 ft lbs max gearbox torque? I like it. :D

mike does the 6L90 look promising?? That would sweet if it works out!! It has a nice set of ratios.

the 4l80e has been proven in a 3300lbs car with over 3000hp and 2700lbs of TQ. with transbreak

if you break it down we could run that in our 1200hp trucks all day long on the foot break.
over drive issues are non exsistent if you know what to build the tranny with.
just as with any tranny with time comes parts availibility and better materials.

how do i know?
steve lynch runs one in his 6 second car and has for 140 straight passes, with out failure!!!

the 4l80e is lighter than the alli and the dodge tranny too!

Rossler built 4L80e seem to be surviving behind in a 3500lbs car with a 1500+hp LS1.

I to think the 4l80e is they way to go. Go buy an old 6speed stick truck so you can pull the trans and swap in 4l80E with a standalone or any other trans for that matter. Back half it, twin turbos, and twin pumps in a package that weighs a shade under 4500lbs. Sounds like solid 9s to me. Not that I think about such things.:baby:
