I just started my truck and run inside (it's cold) and it started to run:rofl: away! Well not really, I forgot about the fast idle when it's cold. I guess I didn't think about it with all the stuff that has been changed that it would still work. I just thought it was funny that it scared me:( . Jeff

LBZs do have that automatic fast idle, dont they? Easy to forget that.

Yeah, that probably would've given me a heart attack, too.

LLY's have the auto high idle too. But LLY's do NOT have the "heater performance mode" that the LBZ and newer trucks have (in addition to just idling fast like the LLY, the LBZ TCM also stalls the trans turbine to build up heat in the converter and load the engine more)

Lemme ask you a question IF you have a flat driveway and a good working parking brake will your truck warm up faster idling in neutral as opposed to park?

I wish I had high idle on my LB7
You can set one up, but it is not automatic. If you have cruise control, you can jump 2 pins on the ECM and get fast idle at 1200rpm & 2000rpm. It is actually the control for the PTO, but works as a fast idle.

A long time ago, I bought the PPE fast idle kit. It works pretty good, but you have to hit the cruise control to get the engine to run up (not good for autostart, you still have to walk out to the truck).

You could also do it w/ EFI, and tie it to ECT, but I have never done it. I was always afraid of pushing through the brakes if I took off before the engine was warmed up and idle rolled back to stock.

No, because "park" is nothing more than "neutral + park pawl".

If you had a really really really good parking brake and trusted it, the truck would warm up really fast if you just left it in drive. :D

Ben, do the LB7's stall the trans turbine as well? Mine has a "whine" to it when it's cold.

The elevated idle can be turned off with the steering wheel controls.

Whenever you flash a tune you have to reset it don't you?

For those without steering wheel controls:
Key on
Accel pedal to floor
Press brake 3 times in 8 seconds
Release accel pedal
Start truck

First time I found out my truck had that was in the morning after a snow storm in big bear last year. Used the remote start from inside the hotel and ran out wearing only shorts when I heard it revving up. Scared the hell out of me!
