new to the entire truck scene including diesels. i live in albuquerque nm at about 6000' elevation. first of all stupid question, i have a 2002 dmax. would that be the lb7? i am just learning all this so please bear with me. i was hoping for about 18-20mpg average between in town and highway. i think i averaged about 16 on my first tank so that wasn't too bad. I am looking for quality additives for my gas. I know how dirty diesel is. I have also heard about issues with lb7 injectors, could anyone enlighten me on this? or supply a link? so what additives to use? truck is pretty well stock. got K&N intake and slightly larger shocks and torsion bars torqued. Nothing crazy. Im under warranty still so i dont want to void anything. please give me some info!

Luckily for me, my injectors went at like 115k, so GM covered it. Never had any injector problem with my '03 though. Seems to be hit or miss with injector failure on the LB7's.
A decent tune, and a turbo-back exhaust will get you better mileage over stock.

im hoping that my injectors go soon here that way its covered. I cant imagine thats cheap to replace. I build gas drag cars and bikes but im so new to the diesel scene its embarrasing. do you know of what mods I could get away with without voiding my warranty? I actually own my own custom fab shop so the exhaust is a must but only if it doesn't kill my warranty. and I would like to chip it. also, i want to put a damn stereo system in it but since the computer functions are controlled through the stock head unit Im not sure if I can take that out. if you know anything along these lines let me know please. I need as much information as possible.

You could just go to the dealer and tell them it smokes at idle and is down on power etc. common symptoms for injectors and they will most likely change them. They did it for my LB7 when I had it:cool:

Whenever I would head into the dealer for service or anything, I just threw the stock tune back in, they never knew. And I wasn't worried about the exhaust. So just get a tuner you can easily put back to stock when needed =)

Can anyone give me pros and cons of different tuners they've tried? Also, additives for the gas? When I picked up the truck it was almost not smoking at all. Now its starting to. I like the effects but smoke is just fuel not burning.

Actually did alright on mpg on the last fill up. After I took my foot out of the pedal a little I got about 17.5 which is significantly better in my opinion. I'm still waiting to hear on my warranty issues. Anyone know about replacing the deck? Since you reset codes through your stereo can you replace that without them voiding out the entire electrical part of the warranty?

I'm at 8500' elevation and drive all day long around 6500' to 7000' in the Springs. My mixture is about 65% city, 10% flat highway and 25% up and down Ute pass. This is with an LBZ not an LB7.

I'm running 265 BFG AT's and hand calced average about 17mpg unloaded. I'm not easy on the pedal but by no means launching from light to light.

Depending on your odometer I gained about 1mpg from new to now.

truck has about 73500 on it right now. i guess gas mileage im doing okay because I do probably 95% city and 5% through the mountain highways, no flat highway driving time really.
