Hello everybody, my name is JR and I just purchased an 05 Duramax that is fixing to take up a lot of my time. It currently has coolant mixing with oil and vise versa. I'm going to do a pressure test today after I get the system completely sealed up. It has a coolant leak around the turbo area that I need to ID and fix first. I believe it's a turbo coolant line. I'm hoping the mixing issue is just an oil cooler issue, but I'm preparing for the worst. It has multiple codes as well so it looks like I'm going to be learning a lot about this truck. I'm
Excited though because I have always wanted a Duramax so let the fun begin. Hopefully by the end of the day I'll know more about what I'm getting myself into. I'll keep you all posted and hope to get some good feedback along the way.

There are too many codes too list. The previous guy who worked on this truck butchered it. Wires were dangling everywhere. I'm thinking this has something to do with all the codes. I confirmed either HG or cracked block yesterday because coolant was dripping out of the tailpipe. I actually have another thread on this that I previously posted. It's under engine building titled remanufactured motor if any of you care to chime in. I have always wanted a duramax diesel and I got into this one at a very fair price. I just hope it doesn't turn out to be a nightmare getting it back on the street.

I saw your post on remanufactured motor, I would pull it out do a complete teardown and inspection. Look at all the bearings even if it didn't run with water in the oil antifreeze is not chemically friendly to bearings and it sounds like it may have sat for some time.
Hopefully you can find a replacement wire harness if the PO has butchered it as bad as you say I would just replace it.
Remember as you do your teardown if you decide on replacement in favor of a rebuild you will need what you're tearing into as a core and will most likely still need to reassemble it.:thumb:

I would love to tear it down, but I don't have that kind of time. I'm going to either replace the HGs and cross my fingers, or just put a reman motor in there that has a warranty on it. If I get a reman motor, I'm probably just going to keep my block and rebuild it over time for learning purposes and to have a back up motor.

If the engine harness is butchered, you'd be better off putting up a wanted thread for a new harness in the sale area. Someone here has got to have an extra LLY engine harness.

Butchered was probably the wrong word. He just left a lot of things disconnected and didn't put things like the TCM back where they belonged.
