but doesnt the ifs ride nicer? how do the 06/07 lbzs ride. i at one time thought about buying a new ram 1500 for the ride but diesel fever caught me. is the duramax gonna ride rougher than my 04 ram 1500? is there anything you guys have done for ride quality, ie leaf spring deletes or nice aftermarket shocks?

Yes the IFS rides better than the Dodge Heavy Duty trucks. Some people are just stuck on 1970's technology, i.e. the straight front axle. I'll take a sleeved and straight linked IFS over their (Ford and Dodge) 1970's technology any day.

Bottom line, you are not going to find a better riding or handling heavy duty diesel pickup than a GM product.

cool. just what i needed to know. ok, im also wondering about the longgevity of the transmissions. sometimes lasting a long time, and handling alot of torque are two different things. how long do these transmissions last for guys with only 500lbs in the bed on average. is it a long lasting transmission in addition to being strong enough to handle 450 hp or so. i mean, when guys allisons have finally broke, what was it that sent them to the mechanic for a rebuild. thanks..

If you plan on making 450hp plan on building you trans unless you barely ever run that tune, and even then you're running a risk. If you leave the tuning stock the tranny will last a very long time with 500lbs in the bed

The Allison is a strong transmission. I wouldn't be the least bit concerned about it's longevity in stock form, or built form for that matter. You just have to build it according to power you plan to make.

450 hp at the engine could probably be done with a 6spd, maybe even a 5spd depending on your right foot. Not letting the 5 speed shift into 5th over half throttle would help it on the street.
You'd at least need a trans-go on the 6 speed, if not a full build, to hold it at the wheels. The 5 speed would need a Suncoast Stage III, well GMax equivalent now.

28mpg? Hand calculated? #2 diesel? No propane or help? Never heard or seen anyone with these numbers in a truck before. And ive owned a bunch myself. I get 18-19, sometimes break 20 barely. All hand calculated
I did get 26 mpg one time on a round trip to a job and back of 180 miles. I filled up on the service road, drove to the job which was on the service road as well, then drove back and filled up at the same pump at the same station. Hand calculated with the cruise set at 70 mph the whole way running my mileage tune from Rob. But my truck is also a 2wd zf-6
