OK guys and gals, my week went like this......
After fighting that damn fuel leak for three weeks prior, we decided to compete anyway, and would make oil changes as needed.
Day 1 We rolled onto the dyno with a cold motor, and plenty of Lucas in the crank case, just wanting to limp our way through. The old girl came through in a big way for us on the second pull. SAE corrected 1663 trq 869 hp. STP corrected 1730 trq 903 hp. Sad part is, she was still making power when the dumb ass driver(me) let out of it at 2750 RPM. We decided that would work and opted to skip the third pull. I could not have been happier to leave there with a third place! By the time the truck had cooled, Brayden and Chase Fleece had already found and ordered new injectors and return rails in Louisville, and Mrs Camo was on her way! Dennis gave us a garage bay, and the four hour injector change thrash session was on. Leak gone!!
Day 2 This was supposed to be our "big money" day! First pass at the drag strip I left real soft, but knew right away the power was there if I could get it to leave decent. Second pass started with a so-so 1.66 60' but then came to life and pulled real hard through the traps. 6.79 at 105. I knew the time had a decent chance of standing so we sat back and waited. It did, first place! Now we were in a three way tie for first with Dimitri, and Brian Parker, and with the trailer tow up next, I was feeling confident that we could leave day 2 with first place by ourselves. Not to be!! I was first up for the trailer tow and had four heart attacks right in a row when I started to spool, and NOTHING!!! No second chances, or time to work on it in this event, so I chugged my way down the track for an embarrassing last place. No air, all fuel, last place, pout, cry. Insult to injury was trying to reach 60mph in the eighth mile for the break test. It took me 3 tries, and they even let me get a run from the staging lanes!!LOL. Enter the Fleece boys again! Turbo thrash session that night. New S-475 fresh for day three!
Day 3 Still pouting, I started day 3 pretty confident in the tie breaker, ride and drive, mileage test. With a 500 lb tank of CNG strapped in the bed, we managed 45 mpg and won. Now it was off to the truck pull tied for fourth with Dustin. Drag racers have this bad habit of lifting any time the vehicle starts to hop or the tires break loose. Not good for truck pulling. It seemed to come out pretty strong, but then it happened.....tire spin, lift, back on it, start to hop, lift, back on it, third time back on the throttle was to little, too late. 6th or 7th place??? They didnt tell us. Had we been able to hang in the trailer tow, and enter the truck pull in 1st or 2nd, I'd like to think that I would not have lifted until it broke in half, but man I would really like to try to put her in the 10's this week, so I had to be a girlie man.
I should be done pouting, and playing the "what if" game pretty soon, then I can start the thank you, and congrats threads! See ya on the asphalt!
