He lost prime on it and pulled over and could pump it up and get it to run about 20' again. I could hear fuel pressurizing out of the bottom of the CP3 and he said if he had the right amount of angle with mirrors he could see fuel leak out of small bolts tword the bottom of it. Does this mean it is bad or is it just a leak at the lower mounting spot. We tried to get it all taken apart over thanks giving but didn't have enough time as he has kids all over hahah

truck is 2004.5 LLy 2WD stock TX truck

he said it is leaking out of a loose bold on the back side of the pump. You have to tear it down a bit to get to it, but you think it may just be that bolt backed out and started leaking after maybe it was replaced before? Truck has about 180K on it i think

if a cp3 is leaking, its not good. either it blew a seal out when the bolt loosen up or something else has come apart inside and caused the bolt to loosen up.

take a pic of where its leaking. it may be the lift pump thats loosened up. that might be fixable but i would be taking the whole cp3 out at this point and going over it.

Below are the pics of my buddies CP3, the one with 2 arrows shows the bolts that were backing themselves out and the other pic is where the leak is coming from, any of you guys get away with just doing the O-ring kit? If not he found a company in FL , link below https://pensacoladiesel.com/product/2004-5-05-lly-cp3-pump/

Do not use anything from Pensacola Diesel. Their products are worthless. Spend the money on a low mile used cp3 if anything

Just had a customers LLY do that. Seemed really odd. Ended up just replacing it. Wasnt worth the risk to try resealing and also if any contamination got in it. His had 3 of the bolts sitting in valley.

^This, DO NOT use any fuel injection components from Pensacola Diesel, they are garbage. Had a customer bring me that crap to install in an LB7 (full set of 8 injectors) and had 3 bad off the bat (new lines everything, not a contamination issue). Out of the 3 we had to replace 1 went bad in ~2 months.

I just pulled mine out for leaking, then noticed the 3 bolts in the valley. Could vibrations cause the bolts to shake out? The threads in the cp3 look worn almost smooth.

Mine too. All 3 bolts in the valley. The threads inside the CP3 are almost completely smooth. It had almost 300,000 miles. I got a reman Bosch CP3 from Lincoln Diesel Specialist. I was wondering if I should put thalidomide on the bolts?

thalidomide? You want the CP3 to have birth defects?
