Bigbird, the bar looks good! Who's rules or guidelines did you use?? I am forced to look into a bar...........but there are so many drawbacks for DD.
I see that NADM say's back-bars must have a min 30* vert angle. I want to do mine similiar to yours.........build a halo to the back of the crew-cab. I was also trying to figure out how to get the cross bar out of the way for the seat to recline...........havn't figured that out yet either.

NHRA rule book. the guy that installed mine does tech for them. there is a provision in the rule book that states you don't need to be 30* as long as the bends will not fold under pressure. on mine, in a roll over the bend would try to straighten out if pressure was applied. I will make sure as i am going to have it certified shortly.

What about latches like what they use on the doors, would that pass tech?

Good info!!............I guess I should buy a NHRA rulebook. Those provisions are what I need to study. My local race chasis builder say's that we can also make the back-bar removable..........but I don't think it help with the seats.
Are you going to paint yours in the truck?????

I spoke with our local NHRA certification 'guy' today and he say's that we CAN NOT have detachable seat bar. I asked him about the back braces and he was not 100% sure about having them follow the ceiling of the C.C. to the back window. He is checking and will call me back. I will post info. when I get it.
He did, however, mention that the seat bar can have an 'offset' to allow room for the seat to recline. But, it might require an adjustable and removable bar that would be against the driver seat during any compitition.
It seems that this may continue to get more complicated:confused:

You're going to have to get me that guy's number Kelly. I imagine I'm going to need one sooner than later.

Duramax 83- Are you Richard?

Dan,

My turbo was ordered through you I believe. The motor was built by NADP. It's great fun :D

Kelly,

You have to get me that guy's number still. As soon as it warms up, we'll have to take the trucks out for a spin.

Well.........I got educated yesturday. I've been talking with our NHRA certification 'guy' and found out that a "roll-BAR" cannot be certified. The only certification that NHRA or SFI does is for a "roll-CAGE".(8-point)
I did talk in-depth with him about the 30* back-bars and we could not come-up with any way to do it in a crew-cab and still have the rear seat area clear.
So, it looks like the only thing we have to do is please the particular racing sanction where we run.
NHRA does have 'build guidelines' for a rollbar in their rulebook (hence the 30* from vertical terminology)..............but it can't be certified.
It was news to me!
