I'm getting closer to installing my new S366( II Silver Bullet 66/74/14) on my LLY, and am wondering if there are any must have tools that I should have before I get started? Obviously a first time turbo r&r. Ben's install write up looks great and I will make some of Paint's penetrating oil. Thanks for any help.

Crows feet is pretty much the only must I can think of.
Other than the general sockets/swivels.

To screw in the fitting into side of the block.

A 1/2 breaker bar or flex head ratchet and 1/2 12 mm 12 point socket for uppipe bolts. Not sure if you can get the heat sheild off the turbo in 1 piece or not ive had to cut it in half and tak out both pieces seprately.the down pipe clamp is always on the bottom with the nut facing the drivers side if its factory. If the down pipe has been changed it could be anywhere.

You dont need to massage the firewall or cut the stud off for install i did this for no reason when i installed mine and the others ive done since then i have not needed to do this either.I would sugest you get an oil drain tube for and lb7 they are the perfect length and dont need to be cut and unless you have an engine sitting on the ground to test fit it you will be taking the turbo on and off trying to get the correct lenght before you tighten the clamps,i know we did this on an lbz. What a pita.if you can loosen the front exhaust pipe and wiggle it out it makes getting the exhaust down pipe in easier and then once the down pipe is in place and the front piece of exhaust removed hold it up there in place and mark it with a sharpie then cut it in the vise, ream it out nice.I leave the down pipe just a touch loose so i can swing it a little and swing it to 1 side or the other, attach the now straight exhaust piece back on the exhaust system with the BD down pipe on 1 side or the other of the reinstalled pipe get some help and have a buddy pull on the exhaust system it will swing backwards enough to clear the down pipe, swing the down pipe over in line and let the exhaust come back into the down pipe, may have to file the edges so it slides good, ive used a little grease to help it slide in before(insert sexual inuendo here):rofl:Tre trans dip stick will fight you also just keep cool and another set of eyes is very helpful.if you run into to trouble ill pm you my number and id be glad to help talk you thru it.Also before you wrap the exhaust push it into the turbo and make a mark where it runs in relation to the uppipe they are so close theytouch and it may make it a little hard to get the down pipe in and secured.

Swivel extensions/drivers, crows feet, breaker bar, case of beer and a box of bandaids...:D

And just bend the turbo heat shield in the shape of an M and it will slide right out...

Thanks for all the advise guys! I've got most of what I need. Seems like I read the pedestal bolts are 17mm, will a socket and universal joint fit? Scott, does the lb7 oil drain tube come with the bd install kit? A driverside dipstick came with it so hopefully that takes some of the fight out of the install. The heatshield has been gone for a long time and I lucked out that the clamps were facing the right direction from the factory. It must of been built on a Wednesday.:D

It is just an adapter that comes with the kit. just bolts to OE line.

17mm socket with a swivel built in, and a long extension to get at the pedestal bolts.

If you just put a regular 17mm socket onto a swivel joint, it works, but its kinda too long so its a PITA.

A dedicated "combo swivel/17mm socket" is the way to go.

And of course a FINE-TOOTH long-handle 3/8" drive flex-head ratchet

No the lb7 drain tube you would need to sorce otherwise you can use the lly 1 but like i said you will be dicking around trying to cut it and tighten the hose clamps, its a pain.you can get the 17mm bolts with mostly a 8 or 10 inch extention to get down in there if you can get away with 3/8ths id use that and a 17 shallow 6 point its pretty tight down in there so 3/8ths and a shallow should give you a little wiggle room,Ive used wobble extentions and a wiggle joint at times you will get 2 of them fairly easy but there is 1 thats going to give you a little trouble. The drivers side dipstick is what im talking about its going to go great till you get to the last inch and you will finaly get it all the way up and then have a hard time pulling it back down,it hits the bellhousing sensor on the Alli and lining it up and pulling back down is a pain.I pull the wire off and turn the sensor a little and that helps alot doesnt hur to have the drivers wheel and inner fender out so you can see.

Lol!

I've got good dexterity but big hands don't fit well in small places! I'll probably end up throwing tools and getting wasted before it is done :D

24" flex head ratchet works great through the passenger side wheel well. breaks loose easily. Only thing iv found is the bottom 12 mm bolt requires a 1" extension and shallow socket, some say they have had success with deep sockets, but using a 1/2 drive ratchet, the short extension and shallow socket works everytime.
