Thanks Mike. Options out west are limited by me. My job is a very DC-centric job. I'm an intelligence analyst but don't care for big cities as I'm originally from a very small town in AK. However I understand to make connections on the civilian side I may have to deal with a higher level unit generally based in big cities or closer to the flag pole (DC/Quantico) as we say.

Im looking at moving in the next 6 months or so and wanted help choosing where. Being in the military my options are limited and here's what they are.
Omaha, NE
Quantico, VA
Norfolk, VA
VA Beach, VA
Arlington, VA
Denver, CO

Things about me...don't care for big cities and don't mind a reasonable commute to work. Like fishing, hunting, camping and general outdoors. The Mrs is soon to be a school teacher so a job for her is a must. Help me out guys!

Ive been to all those places and lived in some of them. My choices in order would be:

Denver, CO Like fishing, hunting, camping and general outdoors, this place is for you, I would live in a burb though.
Omaha, NE
Quantico, VA Nice Jarhead base.
Arlington, VA
VA Beach, VA
Norfolk, VA I'd rather loose a leg than have to live there again.

VA has some nice contry, I like most of it that is off the coast.

Kansas when I am home
Nebrasks does not have a hole lot of anything anywhere, I have had the unplesantry of driving up there several times and it sucks everytime. No offence to anyone there because KS is no better in most places.

Quantico would be cool IMO I went through there in late 07 as a DOD tech for training in a nearby facility. Plus hey criminal minds is there maybe you'll bump into the BAU:happy2:

I've visited Denver and it's alright for a big city but it was best the farther you drove AWAY from it. I really like Golden, CO.

Teaching jobs appear to be hard to come by EVERYWHERE. My wife graduated a year ago and nada. :( She's even certified in teh "holy grail" of teaching certifications - K-9 Science. Everyone assured her there would be no problems finding a job with that certification but way more than 12 apps later (every surrounding school board within 1.5 hrs of where we live) and still nada. Gonna try getting into some good rotations or a long term sub position in one of the surrounding counties and hope it leads to a job. It's suppose to be even worse for teachers next year with even more Ed. cuts coming. Ug.

That's crazy Mitch!! Can't believe it's that hard to find a teaching job but I guess that's what education budget cuts do. Who needs to know how to read and write anyway?

Of those options I would go Colorado. Unfortunately, its Denver but at least your within reasonably driving distance of some really beautiful country. Lots of great hunting and fishing nearby and your closer to Northern Arizona than any of the other options which is the place you really want to be.

I'd go with the Mountain. The Springs isn't too bad. I spent almost three years there. VA and the areas close to the bases are pretty ridiculous cost of living. I spent the summer of '09 there on WH duty.
