Well, my wife just got her orders and it looks like we're moving to Portland, OR. She is going to be working on Swan Island. We are looking to buy a house and have a 1 hour or less commute. Anyone from the area have any ideas on what area's would be best?

Good luck. I have to travel to Portland several times a year for work.

I have never seen so many scraggly beards, dirty clothes, facial piercings and wild tattoos.

And that is just on the women...

Welcome :hello: What kind of place do you want? In the city, out of the city, suburbs, etc? If you want to get out of the city, you could look west along highway 30 for as far as you wanted to drive everyday. Pretty much you can drive anywhere in the Metro area in an hour unless it's right at rush hour and you're trying to go from one extreme of the metro area to another. Morning traffic is pretty good most everywhere until 7:30-9:00ish AM.

Multnomah county has the most lib :nutswinger:s of anywhere. The kind that will vote themselves a county income tax (it's gone now) and elect a pretty shady :gaybow: mayor (Portland).

You obviously didn't drive down to Eugene

Well my wife is from the area (Gladstone). We have been looking everywhere within a 25-30 mile radius. We're in Washington DC right now so rush hour out there might look like a Sunday drive to her, but I still won't drive in it... makes me wish I had a $500 dollar beater truck and could just start ramming people.

We've looked in St. Helens, Scappoose, Damascus, Gresham, and Oregon City mostly. If Multnomah county is as bad as you say, I might have to be careful with my over fueled laggy truck blowing smoke on everyone.

Good luck with the move. I moved here a little over two years ago from Missouri.

Another thing to consider is emissions testing (DEQ here in OR). All of Multnomah Co. and all of Washington Co. are required to have emissions testing. I live about 20mi north of Scappoose in Columbia Co. The DEQ boundary line stops at the northern city line (everything north of Scappoose on HYW30 does not need DEQ). I can't speak for any other boundary lines, all I know about is Columbia Co.

As for morning/evening traffic on HYW30, it's not bad. It pretty much moves at the speed limits.

Hey bud, just to give you a heads up. My Fiance's parents live in Camas,Washington. And drive to Portland everyday for work. They live on the side of a mtn. and it is beautiful. But Check the outskirts of Camas, about 30 mins from downtown Portland. :thumb:
