So, I've been ****ing off changing out these mounts. I finally got two 1/2" bolts through the mounts I bought off Mike and now I'm laying under the truck deciding whether to jack the motor up from the oil pan with a block of wood or the bell housing? Looks like a cock bag to change on the ground by yourself.

10-4, I'll pull the tire and liner. Think a 1/2 impact with a swivel can get it done going through the wheel well, I over think shit, I watched the dealer in zelienople pa change the LLY mounts in 2011 but I didn't pay close enough attn obviously, I remember them doing it from under the truck but we had it on the lift.

I went through the fender well and used a flex head ratchet. 2wd trucks can easily be changed from underneath.

Yeah, that's the only advantage of a two wheel peel truck. I made it to the mounts, they're not bad and wow my motor is spotless and the mounts look new, gonna pull them anyhow. I don't have a flex head ratchet but I have a swivel and a bfh somethings gonna give.

On a negative note, my month old idler arm is SHOt just like the 12k mile control arm was, so.... Looks like new motor mounts, new steering box (mines pouring since it sat for 5 days) new idler arm, extra PS cooler so it'll now have two total, and a new GM power steering pump. If I have to get under this thing again other than to change oil or put bigger parts on it, I'm burning it.

Thats a plan. :)

I overthink things too, just ask James1925. No worries.

Ha!!

Block of wood on the bell housing is how I do it.

As for the engine mounts, 15mm swivel head socket to my 1/2" impact pulls the 3 heavily loctited bolts out of the frame with ease. The other 4 on the block Use long extensions and zip them off. Do one mount at a time. Pull the steering shaft out for more room. Passenger side I have not replaced in the truck but don't see it being that hard

Problem #2, my jack leaks off fast so I can't just leave it sit overnight. Never ends. I'm gonna bolt it back up for now, if it's gonna be an issue someone let me know and I'll just order a new bracket when I order my steering box Monday, trucks gonna be sitting anyhow

So James, my impact did not take the ones out of the frame with ease I broke the bolt closest to the cab!!!!

Do I run it or pull it and drill it out or what do I do????

Keep engine lifted, pull the two long bolts holding the frame pad to the frame outrigger and wiggle frame pad out. Use some heat on the remainder of the bolt and (if you can) use a pair of vise grips on the underside of the bolt to turn it out. Been there.

If your jack is losing pressure, build a "tower" out of boards (or use two jackstands with a board between) next to the jack to hold the engine up in the air.

I gave up on bottle jacks years ago and use scissor jacks for this type of work. Never be concerned about leak down and lowering them never any sudden surprises....:thumb:

I also had to do this. The bolts broke in mine also when I had to pull my motor..

^^this. Your not totally screwed yet Reger. I've had them break too but very rarely. None rust state seems to help that

Was it suspension, shocks or when I was figuring out the 3/4 front end? I forget. :roflmao:

Lmao, probably both!!

Mine has zero rust under it, just my luck. I stuck the new mount in with a couple bolts for the night, I'm out of patience and that's when I loose time and start costing myself money.

I own one jack stand, guess I need to talk to hogue and borrow some, but I have a scissor jack, and looks like I'll be at the parts store in the morning.

These bolts look pretty weak, should I get some grade 8's or some new ones?

Those bolts have held for quite a while so far.....;)

Id put some blue loctite on them, though.

So, I put a 6x6 chunk of wood under the stock screw jack, a 6x6 on top and lifted the motor, had the mount and bracket out in 15 min this time since I wasn't fighting a junk jack. Put a little propane torch on the bolt and it came right out with vise grips.

What size is that bolt? Can I get it at lowes or somewhere or do I have to drive 40 miles and order one from the dealer?

TX of course
You can try Lowe's, but the bigbox hardware stores don't have much selection.
