Shot in the dark here. If the upper engine harness connector is left unplugged the engine will still run but sound like all hell is breaking loose. Possibly the connector is not completely seated or locked in. But this also sets all kinds of codes. First time it happened to me it scared the crap out of me. Just grabbing for straws.

But I would'nt start tearing it apart just yet. If you cut the filter open and there's nothing in it, the bottom end should be fine. It could just be the counterweight on the dampner causing it to appear as though it's bouncing when it's really not. Easiest way to tell is cut open the filter and also see if you can move the dampner by hand up and down. Also stick a pry bar behnd the dampner and see if it moves in and out.

I will check all that jneal If it makes any difference the balancer was moving enough to hit the drain tube for the pcv.

I see your asking about Ben's LB7 crank. Sorry to hear about it, Jeremy. Hope you figure out what caused it so it doesnt happen again.

Yea I figured I would try to gather parts anyway. I sure hope I get it figured out as well. But my gut feeling is the crankshaft so I am trying to prepare.

When my crank broke the motor was stock. The balancer was hitting the front cover and making a knocking noise. There was not any metal in my filter though. It happens really quick. It only cranked two times afterwards. The best part was nothing else was damaged. Wish you lots of luck there Jeremy.

I'm hoping for the best, that nothing else is damaged anyway. If the motor comes apart it will be the third time in less than a year, that it has been tore down. I'm running out of money!!!

Well I have most of the motor ready to pull. Balancer has 1/4" to 1/2" of slack in it. I'm guessing it is broke on the front lobe. When I get the motor out I will take some pics and video's.

All the ones I've seen break are broke on the rear web for the #5,#6 crank throw. That would explain why #7 and #8 cylinder balance rates are way off. I've seen 3 broke there.

As bad as the balancer is moving I was just guessing that it was broke up front. I could be completely wrong though. At first check of balance rates I figured it would be broke towards the rear.

You should find it broken just before the second main and just behind the second rod. That would be the only way to have the movement you described. That is also where my crank broke.

Well we put the motor on the scales yesterday. It weighed 870 with everything but dual cp3 and a/c. I'm headed to see if I can get the oilpan off this morning. Hopefully the engine stand is here.
