Okay so ive been on the phone some lately and have come up with a mild yet stout motor build.
I want it to be on a budget and it doesnt need to support huge power levels, but certain things I dont want to do twice.
Here is what I have come up with thus far.
Carrillo Rods
ARP Main Studs
Clevite H Bearings
Now for the pistons there are a couple options.
As long as i do indeed have a bent rod and not a cracked piston i will have guy delip and coat them.
Now if they are bad i may buy a set of delipped and coated pistons from guy, but for that price i wonder if i should just spend a little more on some cast mahles. But then again maybe if i go with mahles i should just go with forged ones, i think its all going to come back to delipped and coated LB7s.
I will be having curtis at DPR balance everything, and key the crank and cam.
Hopefully i do not have to overbore it at all but if i do i will have curtis do that as well.
Now for questions
1. I dont know if I need a damper or not, if so ill get the one from guy, but like I say, not sure if i need it or not.
2. While the injectors are out I would like to send them out to get them honed out, but i know they aren't cheap to do. I also am considering guys injector stud and holdown kit. What percentage should I go. 80%?? Then again I am sure this depends on whether or not I have the twin CP3s on or not.
Also, I have a second CP3 sitting here so buying a twin CP3 kit and doing them would be really nice, but this is the last thing on my list as I can always do this fairly easily on short notice when funds become available
3. Now im not an experienced engine builder, just a youngin, so on the pistons i do have a couple questions. If mine are bad, can I use the ones out of my other motor or will things not work??
4. Also if i need to overbore the cylinders, can i still use my original pistons or do i need to go new?? Im assuming i can still use them.
5. Also do i need to replace the headgaskets again or are they multiple use??
6. Ive also heard a few times that its a good idea to just replace the water pump while its out. Do most guys do this or no?? I know its not fun to get to once its in the truck.
7. And I think my last question is all of the gaskets and seals and o rings and such. I see GM has a master overhaul gasket kit or something they call it. Anybody know whats in it??
8. Do I need to lower the compression ratio a bit?? I plan on sticking with this S400 for a little while.
9. Anything Im missing??
Not sure when this will be finished, funds just arent there, but I want to get everything penciled in so I have a solid figure to work off of.
Thanks guys.
