Any word on what caused the fire? What about the fire suppression system; did it not work properly?
Got news from Curtis (driver from yesterdays record with the Mormon Missile)
Just 1st and 2nd burns on hand and face, nothing else ... helicopter landed in burn center, I believe in SLC
I couldn't really tell from the pictures; how bad is the damage? Is it still driveable? I'm guessing this will end their runs for the week.

He had 3 fire systems, and you wear fire protection from head to toe include a head sock.
But in a streamliner, you are in a very confined space and going at very high speeds when shit happens. Without the equipment, he would have been dead before the car stopped.
Thanks again for the update, Volker.
Seldom Seen Slim said:Mormon Missile is leaving today -- but not 'til the fancy paperwork has been presented. Congratulations to them -- good effort, bad luck (the engine hurt a piston, that's what started the chain of events that led to the coolant cap coming off. No oil or fuel lines were damaged -- it wasn't either of those sources of fuel for a fire that led to the problems).
What pistons were in it?
The owners are no strangers to diesel racing. The Goodfellow team has one DMax powered record holder already. As I understand it, this Goodfellow streamliner was built in response to some Brits with a mega-million dollar record holder and an arrogant attitude. And it was done in just 7 months which is just amazing for one of these. It's not real pretty yet, but it has some awesome engineering. What goes into one of these streamliners is something to behold. A whole lot of stuff crammed into what's essentially a car with an airframe. Curt's engine is very similar to the one he built for Nasty Girl.....LLY block, stock LLY crank, tweeked LB7 pistons, and his rods (Howards). Other special fabrications are dry sump lube, two big turbos, and two really trick heat exchangers. He does beautiful work. The car weighs 4,000lbs. Electronics are something else too, just beautifully done. The car is geared for something like 375mph and has lots of power available. They're running a fairly mild 700hp tune right now but there's another one with about 1400hp if needed. Really amazing is at the starting line......gas motored cars shake the ground and almost split your eardrums while this diesel car has a rumble about like what you'd hear on the street.
