IIRC, Mahle went from Alum to Steel for the Audi diesel roadracer. Trust me, it did not take 5 years, it took 1/2 a season, if that.

What Mahle doesn't understand is that steel pistons would do more than just fill race applications. It would be the suggested replacement for stock trucks that have broken a piston, and it would really open up the marine application market, and perhaps military markets. The ability to run at WOT for several hours at a time isn't something the current pistons can reliably handle at 400-500HP. The rest of the engine can though.

So Pat if you get a set will Casper go back to LSR?

So I take it that monotherm's are a mere pipe dream until they get there so called feedback. Once that happens how hard is it to take the same casting or machine tools turn the furnace up and cookie cutter them out?????? I know the set I read about in the power supply diesel kleen funny car correct me if I'm wrong was beat to death in that cummins and never missed a beat at 2000+ deg EGT's and lord only knows what kind of boost and cylinder pressures they saw. From the day I knew about them they are what I've wanted to use when and if I ever get to build my engines:rofl:

Audi is were they get a ton of feedback from engines sitting on stands running countless simulated 24hr le mans races and then they tear 'em down spec 'em and reassemble then do it over and over again. Audi is a huge company as well and I think its a I pat you on the back you pat me on the back thing they have top priority on the latest cutting edge technology. I'm a huge audi fan and root for them every year during the june le mans race I watch here at home on the speed channel and www but I would like to have more than just a tv event to enjoy the performance of the monotherm's I as well as others want to enjoy them in my rides:thumb:
