Molnar Technologies rods

Anybody heard of or used molnar technologies rods? I had a local machinist resurface my heads a few months ago and while i was there i figured i would get a quote for a build. He told me about molnar tech and said he has had good luck, but he does lots of gas stuff so he couldnt give me much info that was diesel or duramax specific. I believe they are chinese but dont quote me on that, then finish machined in Grand Rapids, MI.

I called molnar today and spoke with a guy that i assume is the owner, didnt ask though. To sum up the conversation he said they are billet rods and he wouldn't/couldn't give me a horsepower/torque rating. He said he has the rods in a few engines and no one has complained yet, but did not know how much power was being made in any of those engines. Then said later on that a guy has a set who plans on land speed racing at the salt flats. He couldn't remeber the number this LSR guy gave him, but he wanted to say he was around 3k horse or was shooting/planning for that kind of power..... not sure how much of that is true but was just wondering if anyone here has used or knows anything about these rods. Price was 2300 a set.

Like many guys say over and over. When they are damn near the same price why not go with the proven ones. Its not worth the risk. Also many performance hard parts dont give hp ratings. To many variables.

I agree on all points, im just curious to see if anyone has any experience with the rods or the company, or even heard of molnar. I think he wants a lot of money for a chinese billet rod myself

Look for that thread from a guy named "pootrol" -- same rods from some place called Hurricane in China.

If you want to be the guinea pig, go for it. I doubt you'll get anyone here to try them.
If you call the manufacturer/machinist and get absolutely no hard facts/data/information on what they can handle other than "they are in a few trucks", then it is probably a lie and you should run quickly away from them.

That's not good new to hear. I was talking with a friend of mine and he told me about molnar. We both wanted to know more about their product, so we both tried calling a few times each but never got an answer. So I moved on to other things.

I do hope that soon, products like these will start easing up on pricing. But I don't want to be a guinea pig for a product where the builder won't even give an estimate on what that said product can do.

Yeah, free until one breaks. When the one in my stock engine broke, it took out the block, crank, cam, upper oil pan, rear adapter housing, and oil cooler lol. Not worth the risk.

Oh it would definitely go in a stock motor. Lb7 pistons and that's it.

I wouldn't be out more than a set of rods to buy a new longblock anyway

Thanks for the link. Very long read for the same thing being said over and over again. I noticed molnar was mentioned in there, and it looks and sounds like the same rod. My guess would be molnar basically picked up where "pootrol" left off. But then raised the price to b a couple hundred bucks below a carrillo..... most definitely not worth the risk and i dont plan on being the guinea pig with the information, or lack there of, i got from the conversation i had with the rep. earlier today

You and your buddy are not missing much. I have more details of the conversation but i didnt want to type the entire conversation out. But i will say he claims 35 years experience designing/building connecting rods. I asked if these rods were forged or billet, his response was "billet, but because you asked that question and the way you asked that i must say there is no difference between a rod machined from billet and a forged rod after you heat treat it". I did not argue his statement, i just paused for a few seconds. But i did want to ask how heat treating would change the grain structure of the billet rod to match the forged piece. I didnt call to argue with anyone and im not a metallurgical expert anyway so i left it be.

And even though a lot of aftermarket/perfromance companies do not advertise a power rating, it is not out of line to expect someone from said company to be able to throw somthin out there like ......disclaimer..... but we have a few sets of our rods in trucks making between 800 and 1000 horse and another customer sent us a dyno sheet showing 13,000 peak torque or whatever...... followed by another disclaimer..... or atleast claim it wont fold up when the starter engages, especially when talkin to the guy that has 35 years experience in the industry.

Does anyone have any input on the LSR guy and 3k horse? Didnt know anyone was making anything close to that. I thought 1500 or 1800 hp was the ceiling for now

13,000 peak torque??? I'm sold that's the rods I want..

They're may not be anything wrong with these rods. But the point is if they're damn close to the same price as rods that have been well tested and known to hold big power why gamble with a couple hundred bucks to take the chance?

But in my eyes any rod can fail. Nothing in this world is perfect.
