Wife had her 30K service done at the dealership in late Jan.
I washed the car today and was hosing out the engine area Decided to check the oil even tho it haed only been about 3000 miles. No dipstick!!!

Can't be much water down the tube but I know there's some

Uggg.

Dealership is 45 minute drive one way and the closest place that has the special oil

We went in to get the oil. They offered to give me the oil but didn't know the right filter, service was closed... Then they offer to give me the oil and dipstick, and send a driver down to get the car Monday to rechange the oil + filter

Left with a loaner car and they're sending a tow truck for hers. Don't want it started until there's fresh oil in it.

What a pain.

I left with the feeling that a couple days after her service, someone said Hey what's this dipstick go to? Guess we'll wait until they come back for an oil change again...

Just the impression I got. No facts to base it on.

Little did they know the car without the dipstick would have the owner that goes psycho with the garden hose

special oil I've only found at the dealer so far.

And ya they have our #s on file.

After the drive home in the gasser loaner car the wife is already missing the turbo diesel. 'This thing is slow'

How much of an issue is in driving for 3000 miles without the dipstick? Just a little lower oil psi from not having the hole plugged? Can crap get in there driving in the rain, salt, dirt roads? Or is there enough psi on the system that only oil would blow out? The dipstick hole looked a little larger than the dmax, and right behind the radiator

No dummie lights came on, on the dash. And the only thing wife noticed was she thought it smelt hot/burning something when she got out of it last Friday

Hoping the dealer finishes with it today. And need to have my bases covered before I pick it up

Knowing my wife, if anything happens to the car from here on out it will be blamed on this incident. Blown motor/turbo/rock chip in the windshield/etc

Wow sounds like my ex-wife, Its not exactly good but really not that bad unless a lot of crap gets splashed up on that engine compartment. Nobody is going to rebuild that engine because the dipstick got left out, and if any of us could see the future we'd be set for life. Their changing the oil and filter correct? That seems to be the best you can do for now. I've seen cust. come back with oil fill caps gone and didn't even know they were missing from where ever they had their oil changed, or how long it had been missing...... Should be fine, good luck

Driven with many dipsticks/filler caps missing. The dipstick doesnt effect engine oil pressure. Only pressure on the dipstick is from crankcase gases.

The only concern is getting stuff in there. Shouldnt get too much in there one wouldnt think, being where your at this time of year. But dry dusty conditions could cause problems.

Make sure they document their screwup on file.

I think Castrol makes a suitable replacement oil at least for the 05.5-07s IIRC.
