Mirror level mod

As I’m sure many of you are aware, aftermarket tow mirrors on the cat eye/classic trucks have a rather drastic angle to them; giving your truck wings. We all know about the washer mod, which levels the mirrors out.

However, I wasn’t satisfied with the way the mirrors shook afterwards as a result of the lateral play to the vertical shaft of the mirror. So together with my father (also on the forum) we made a shim out of some 1 5/8” pvc hose to take the slop out of the mirror when you shut the door or went over a bump. Photos attached.

Good info. I cut a piece of rubber fuel hose open and trimmed to fit. Slid it behind the top mounting screws and tightened it up. Gave the mirror a tiny bit of vibration dampening from it. Was also a bit easier to get them both perfect. Since the rubber gives a bit

That’s a smart choice. I did notice more vibration out of my glass after leveling them off. Perhaps a rubber bushing would be the solution to that.

I can’t help but wonder, is some of the vibration the glass itself vibrating in its mounting clips? Or is it all in the mirror mounting to the truck? I ask because I bought the absolute cheapest ebay junk mirrors I could find in a pinch. The driver has absolutely no vibration at highway speeds. Passenger side is useless, but I can’t see the frame itself vibrating, just the glass.
