Mill and Lathe

Christmas came early. The family got me a used mill and lathe.
I was a machinist 20+ years ago. I hope I remember what the handles do.

Lathe is a Select Machinery (import) 18x40" gapper with Mitutoyo DRO and 7.5hp motor. It has a 10" chuck and a 3" spindle hole. This is WAY overkill, about 3500lb.

Mill is a Supermax (import) 50x10" knee mill with 2 axis CNC control and power drawbar with 2hp motor. Oddly enough, it has a 30 taper spindle. 8-sp not variable speed. The control is a ProMax?

For imports they appear to be built well, the ways seem to be in good shape as well as the lead screws and spindles. The mill is 1-shot oiling but the lathe is not, but does an oiler for the ways.

Bought through Webb Machinery off the 15 freeway near Corona.

60HP will act like a GT47 but with no backpressure.

I have to machine the electric motor's shaft before I go further. I got it cheap, but I need to get rid of the spline to mount a bearing.

It's going in the bed of the truck. The electric motor is 100lb.

Get a nice VFD for that mill and you wont even need to mess with changing the belt for different speeds.

Pat, Why do you have a reciprocating and a screw compressor in the shop?? Why even use the reciprocator?

The reciprocating unit is for backup/maintenance. If the rotary blows up, I'm out of business until it's repaired.

Also, the reciprocating will hit 175psi, my rotary is a 110psi model. I only use 60psi max in the shop and run the manifold at 90psi.

High discharge rate lithium batteries. Guys are pushing >1500 amps at 350vdc in their electric dragsters with lithium.
