Michelin Tweel

I guess I can talk about these now since they are listed on their website.

Some of you guys might remember the Tweels I put on one skid steer. We ran the original ones for about 2k hrs and then they asked if I wanted to evaluate a new design. So we've been running the Tweel All Terrain for a few months and 250hrs+ and have been very impressed. Traction is so much better and the ride is nicer as well. They changed the spoke design and they added more under tread for better retread ability.

The are the originals when they were new.

These are the Tweel All terrains.

Still looking good after 250hrs+.

They also offer a hard surface version which is just smooth tread, there is no pattern at all just smooth solid tread.

They also just came out with a Tweel for some JD zero turn mowers. It's an exclusive deal through deere for now.

So my question is when are they going to come out with a mudterrain set for a 1 ton truck that's also good for the highway?

I remember seeing them in an off-road or truckin magazine a while back. Glad to see they are still working on them. If they hold up under a skid steer they would be great for many other applications.

Very interesting I will have to show my father he is retired now but sold Michelin tires for many years. Back in the day he would have been pushing the Michelin X-mine for your application.

I doubt you would see one for awhile.

This design does not work well at high speeds. Heat and vibration become issues.

I fixed flat tires on skid steers weekly we. We were running the factory Titan tires. Switching to steel belted Bibsteel AT Michelins and the Tweels has dropped that to maybe one per year on the Bibsteels as they are pneumatic.

Most people don't even get one single flat in a year on their pickup or car so the need for an airless tire at this price point just isn't there yet.

I could see them being made for competition use maybe. I suspect the would be banned shortly after.

I know several guys that would run them up here. Lots of roads up here with just shale rock on top of hardpack. Really tough on tires.
