Hey there! New here but not to boards, cars, trucks, bikes. Haven't had a diesel yet and not sure if I am, but figured I needed to lurk and ask some questions .

I have had several pickups, mostly Chevy 1500 style of various years, one dodge 1500, and last one was a 96 454 dually ecsb. Now have an 02 avalanche and love it but I am pushing towing limits and want to do more so upgrading is going to be in my future!

Will start by saying I am cheap and have all my vehicles paid off and really don't want to get another loan and if I do it would probably be next year. I am/ will be working with the value of my avy for now so nothing too great. And am wanting to stay under 10k total for another truck, which should make me finance 5-6k so looking for trucks in the 5-10k realm and have many to choose from. But miles are usually 200+ ( don't bother me Much on the diesel, but a little more on the gasers. )

So target truck due to price is 2000-2010 give or take. 2500 gas is pretty easy but miles and rust come with. And most diesel has miles bit can find low rust for 10k and a little lower. But I spotted one the other day that made me think. Two options I had not thought of. One being 1500HD and the other simply being just 2wd. Being in Michigan it didn't dawn on me really. But I saw an 06 eclb duramax/Allison truck with about 250k miles for just 5k ! Very minor rust, inside not too beat up but well used. Outside looked pretty straight. But open the doors and you can see were there is over spray. ( whole truck was done) now paint don't bother me either as long as it isn't swiss under that fresh paint. Kbb says worth much more but I figured I would see what those that know have to say!

Got so wrapped up saying hi that I forgot to mention I would prefer 4wd but am thinking would the value of this 2wd set me up to buy a 4wd better? I mean I would still get to enjoy the power and towing till I could upgrade again! Or should I just hold the avy coming into the winter and just hunt for what I prefer over next summer.

Now I haul mostly cars. 3-5k on a trailer that is nearly 2k and the avy is only rated for 7k and I am wanting to get a toy hauler and put about 1500# with a goldwing and basically a sport bike. And I just don't want to be sitting on the limit all the time and working it to death

Welcome! 5k is a decent deal on that. Take a fridge magnet and place it in the usual rust spots to see about the filler.

Good luck on your search

If you have other vehicles and like to tinker check out some online auctions. I bought an 04 reg cab w/t 4x4 for $8600. Has 58k miles and I drove 16 hours to get it. I also fixed it up some. Probably around 10k in it total and seems to be a decent truck.

Thanks for the welcomes guys I have been doing some more looking and just to keep cost down I am finding several 6.0 trucks in reasonable price/mile/condition . probably gonna wait till spring to swap so I can drive the car and ride the bike during the transition and possibly find a decent deal from someone not wanting it with no snow.

And nor surprised but the 2wd dmax truck looks to be long gone!
