I have a 2002 Lb7 with 276,000 miles. I have had it for 2 years now and the overflow bottle you can catch dripping sometimes, and the tank always has a ton of pressure in it. I was told that's a head gasket and truck doesn't smoke doesn't smell like antifreeze but I just have to add a little every couple months.. But the new problem occurred yesterday the truck started just pouring antifreeze out of the back passenger side of motor. Almost looked as one was washing it down with a garden hose its leaking that bad. top of the intake was soaked. truck was not smoking or anything. so I shut it off and you could hear what sounded like an air hose leaking somewhere in that area. Someone told me theres plastic fittings back there that break over time or I don't know. any help is appreciated thanks

Freeze plugs???

If a freeze plug rotted out, or got pushed from undue pressure due to a head gasket leak allowing pressure into the coolant system, it would pour out like you describe. Not dealt with one on a d-max, but had a couple go on other rigs, and I would've described it just how you did...

Check the heater core hoses also. Where they connect at the firewall. I had one blow apart on my old lb7 and sprayed coolant everywhere. That was probably the plastic fittings they were talking about. Just because the look in place doesn't mean they are. Give both a light tug. Napa has the fittings and tool needed if it's them.

Check all hose clamps on right side of engine, pretty much anything that leaks will head to the valley and drop down the rear of engine. I thought i blew a freeze plug but turned out to be a loose clamp on the crossover pipe underneath so you could not see it looking down.

If your system is pressurizing its most likely going to be a head gasket and its going to "vent" push out where ever it can. I've seen turbo coolant lines weep leak split etc before. Sounds like you have a bigger leak then what I describe but the cause is most likely the same.

I thought that too, that part its normal. I'd just concentrate on the headgaskets you are going to keep finding the weak spots if you keep putting it off. ask me how i know... I went through more coolant than fuel for a while.

Yeah, if it were me and I knew that, or was told that most likely the head gaskets were leaking, I think I would just bite the bullet, dig in, and address all of it, hoses and stuff get old, brittle, swell etc etc, freeze plugs, while I've not heard of being an issue on a d-max could be addressed at that time as well, it's not impossible that one eroded and rotted out, but wouldn't be my first guess.

If you think there is a piece of gasket missing, and possibly blew out, it should be pretty evident while the vehicle is running, I/you would think...

See if you can borrow/rent a coolant pressure tester and pressurize the system with the engine off, makes it really easy to chase down leaks.
