I have read about some with 500k on them but have never seen one with my own eyes. I have seen one with 290k that ran like a top still.

A freind of minbe runs a trucking company. He runs Hot Shots, straight truck and semis. Most of this fleet is pick ups. The best he ever got out of his trucks was an 01 24v. He got almost 475K before it gave up. Now mind you that is just the motor. In that time the truck ate like 8 tranies, 2 T- cases, two rear ends, one front end, the whole body was replaced. This truck was dead stock. His CR Dodges have not held up as well. More trany problems. His 05 broke a ring and trashed the motor. Dead stock again. He had a 03 hang an injector and trash a motor. Stock again.

Texas Y'all
can you tell in performance or sound if an injector is bad? if it doesn't show up any codes? example: guy with 73k with massive load barreling up a hill, injector sticks open puts a hole in piston, scores cylinder.. GM won't stand behind warranty.. in this situation many jump on the band wagon and go on and on about how they too had similar problems and had to rebuild their motor etc.

I only brought this up on this site because I've come to the conclusion this is the most straight shooting site I've been to. I only brought up the old school 1st generation cummins as I've heard them go upwards of 750k to 1 million miles on their motors.. anyone ever heard of a mild or stock Dmax go near that?

Did you ask why gm wouldnt warranty it? I call bs on that if the truck was stock, the dealers around here are pretty good with the warrantys, ive had a few buddies get injectors replaced with a few mods, and more miles with no hassle.

I think that the way things are going these days with financial problems in the auto industry it will be hard to get anyone to buck up in warranty situations. None of the automakers want to spend money if they can get around it. Alot of warranty will be up to the particular dealership that your dealing with whether it be gm ford or dodge. You just gotta get lucky and find a dealer that will take care of you.

My truck has 110,000 miles on it and hasnt had ANYTHING go wrong with it. And it hasnt had an easy life.

Three PSDs, 89 (no psd, but turbo), 96, 98. All three needed trans after 125,000-145,000 miles. All had some minor rust reguardless of waxing, all 3 suck in the MPG department. At the time, Dodge didn't offer crew cab LB dually so went chevy. Love it. Now dodge has Mega cab LB dually. If they did in the past, probably would have went that way. MPG is king for me. Dodge always kicks everyone's ass. Dad just got an 06 CTD. Gets 18mpg towing 5er (small one though).

I used to have an old 95PSD, CCLB, 5spd, and it was a great truck, had some kid not run a red light i'd prolly still be driving it! I GOT the truck with 230K miles on it and put a ton more on it. But i took good care of it too, a very important step. I had a few problems with it, turbo warm valve broke and puked oil everywhere, so i deleted it. It blew the oil cooler seals. I had to buy $450 worth of front end parts. so on and so fourth. Since it got wrecked i finally got the truck i have today, a d-max, just what i always wanted and i Love It! Beeings its an LB7 I have had some injector issues an since its not stock its up to me to fix it, kinda sucks but no big deal to me, I run the shit out of it and it takes it in stride! The local dodges and fords fear my chevy and don't wanna play! It was my daliy driver till recently. I bought it with 163k on it. Great truck and i wont have anything else! :D

Here is one of the problems I see for a guy just looking for info in the forums. Alot of people seak out forums because thay have a problem. Not too often that the average guy gets on to a forum just to tell everybody how good his bone stock truck or car is running. Alot of the other bad things you read are posts from thoes of us that belong to "Team Borrowed Time". This is the club you join when you decide to tweak one of these trucks right to the point of exploding but they still manage to run. For how long is unknown untill "Pow" "Bang" "Pop", or it just runs kinda bad. I truly believe these motors are good for 500,000+ miles with out major issues if they are used as they were intended. A stuck injector burning a hole in a piston can happen to any of the new Common Rail diesels no matter who makes it.

Just remember you can't believe everything you read on the internet;) Sometimes there is more going on then it appears.

x2, so very true.. I bring this story up to my father-in-law yesterday hes a gm part manager, he said anything would blow pulling a 54' trailer up a steep grade other than a tractor trailer.. i asked him what parts are coming thru more then not for the dmax.... injectors of course..

It all comes down to how you take care of your vehicle. My Granddad has an 05 Dodge cummins auto, it has 120,000 miles on it, All of it towing a fiver. The only reason he drives the truck is when he goes to Alaska on vaction (he actually stays there more than here:confused:) the truck has only needed one steering pump (went out within 10 miles of new) and it blew up a MBRP 4 inch muffler. Other than those two things it has been a great vehicle.

My 2004 LLY has not given me any trouble either though. It has 100,000 on it most of those miles heavily on the brink of destruction modded. I have replaced one cluster, inj wiring harness, and it needs a new steering pump.

My 2001 LB7 has prolly been the best of the bunch. I have 150,000 miles on it and replaced NOTHING on it. Well I busted a side mirror the other day so I replaced both sides.

As long as can remember I've been a Chevy guy, my first car being a souped up Chevy Nova... And the list grows..

I've been looking to buy a diesel for years now, had even considered ford as to be honest I like the outside of the truck more then chevy, just couldn't bring myself to buy one, although I woulda saved money as they're cheaper used.

My loyalty bought me an '05 Duramax which I love, but the more I'm reading about diesels and this duramax in general the more I'm getting discouraged.. I know about the cummins but I've never owned a dodge and always heard of them (the trucks) literally falling apart. but i find myself leaning more towards the dodge as they apparently have little to no motor issues.. I read alot about duramax problems and really cant afford a big ticket fix if an injector melts my motor..

My question to you is more up for encouragement on the duramax and comments about your personal experience. (good or bad) and mileage etc. I want a truck that will last and not base it on loyalty. I spent alot of money on my truck and paid for it cash and cant afford to have an issue, after reading nightmare posts here and there I kinda wished I'd bought a dodge..

If a dmax will leave threw me it will live threw anybody i promise

Remember that your talking about an 05, the injector issues were with the 01-04 LB7 models. I dont think that many LLY,LBZ,or LMM trucks have had injector issues.
