Kodiak started overheating at signals last week .

Had a feeling it was same as last time . A spun gear on pump again .

Same charactristics and cooled down as soon as you got some revs in it .

Bought a water pump and pulled it apart again .

Sure enough ..... same damn thing .

Spot Welded the new pump gear and impeller . No more of this crap I hope .

What a retarded thing to deal with .

Fired up the Miller Welder and took care of this issue I hope .

I hate pulling my balancer after spinning one in the past . Nothing better then a jack handle for leverage to tighten beyond tight . :D

Also had the nice half moon carved in the block about 1/16 deep by feeze plug inside timing cover . That was sweet to see too .

Here are some pics :

hey man i hate to tell you this but thats not going to work. it will on the gear side but the weld will break on the impeller side. i promise, ive been there done it. dustin has went threw 9 of them and all of them were welded. that pot metal that the impeller is made of wont hold weld, and when you weld it like that it heats it up enough to break the "press fit" that it comes with, so when the welds break it will just spin. we had to finally key the shaft and put a roll pin threw it and its holding perfect now.

Well .... we'll see if I caused the impeller to come loose from my spot welds .

That will piss me off , but all I can do is drive it . Lets hope not .

My real problem has been the drive gear .

I hadnt heard of a new and improved pump from GM either .

I am still obsessing over welding the impeller . Anybody that knows me ..... knows I probably lost sleep over thinking about that damn cast impeller and why the f did I weld it .

Oh well ... if I lose the impeller I will pull it down spend another 130.00 and just weld the drive gear and slap it back together agian . ;)

Why not run electric??? What is the worst that could happen it fails? Atleast you don't damage the block! I would like to see someone run a electric on a dd

another thought is run both I know it's costly but atleast you have a back up and are not swapping on the side of the road!

Honestly to me now with the socal dampner I wouldn't want to be pulling it on the side of the road..... Perhaps there is a special tool to pull it but that thing is a tight fit!!!!!!!

I was wondering if drilling it and installing a roll pin would hold.

so far it has held. but we also cut a key way on the shaft and tapped the impeller down on that first, then drilled it and put a roll pin it. i have only had problems with the impeller coming loose on mine and not the gear like most people have. but my gear is tig welded though also.

i wouldnt buy a new one if the impeller spins, i would just take it to a machine ship and get them to do the same thing i did with mine. the seals will still be good so i wouldnt buy a new one.
