Hi everyone, tons of good info here. I just came across a 2003 2500HD duramax, has 190k miles, body has some rust, dents here and there which is no concern for me as my father has been an auto body guy forever. It looked like there may be some leakage on the rear differential, not sure how big of a concern it is. I called the guy, didn't have much to say so I want to go meet with him and check it out. I just want to know what all I should look for.

Injectors, I will check for rough idle, white smoke, fuel smell in oil
Tranny shifting smooth
Check radiator/ antifreeze

What kinds of suspension/ drivetrain issues should I look out for? Anything else you can think of? Any tips are greatly appreciated!!

He is asking $7500 for it btw. Seemed pretty low to me that's why I am concerned. He has another 01 F350 power stroke at $10,900 with 178k which I'm checking out too..

Again, any help is appreciated, we are looking for something to pull a camper and general truck abuse I guess. Thank you

Welcome!

Do you have access to something that can read the balance rates on the injectors? Find out when the injectors were done last. LB7 injectors are usually good for about 100K give or take some last a lot longer and some less...

Jack up the front and ck the ball joints and steering linkage.

Rear diff. seals are very common up here as the hot and cold is really hard on them.

Good luck.

I just recently had to replace my DEF tank & exhaust injector on my 2011 with 65,000 on it. It cost my $1800.00 and the dealer said it wasn't covered under my extended power train warranty, has anyone else had DEF problems?

I would start a new thread.

Do you not have a GMPP?

I'm sure I could get access no problem. I did write down the vin, isn't there a way to check if the injectors were replaced under warranty? Looks like it had DOT stickers on it that were removed, could be a risky sign..

You can take the vin number into the dealer and they can get you all the service history, If it was dealer maintained...
Yep, and wheel bearings...
Forgot those buggers, thanks Chris.

Getting the balance rates read is a good idea. The injectors on my LB7 failed on my drive home from Wisconsin after I bought it. The dealership actually ended up cutting me a check for $2k but I consider that very lucky.
