The LB7 from what I understand, can hold more power. Correct me if I'm wrong guys. I very well could be. But they are infamous for the injectors going bad. The LLY's only have an over heating problem. Easily fixed, and cheaper to fix. If I had the chance to do it again, I would go with the LLY. If for no other reason, The injector issue on the LB7's. Hope this helps.

LB7's hold no more power than any other engine in the Duramax family... simply put for an all out race application they are easier to make power with in the respect that tuning them is more simple(so I have been told:D) than the LLY+. I would go with an LBZ if funds allow hands down..

Cons = LB7 = injectors LLY = overheating

Pros = they are both good engines and I would buy both if I could.

the overheating problem is solved by switching to an LBZ mouthpiece... my truck has never been over 215* that was in 105* weather towing my buddy's boat.... there is a reason why you don't hear of LLY's overheating anymore and that's because the problem is easily fixable. The LB7 has a design flaw witj their injectors

intake mouthpiece....check out ppe website they sell them. theres a bit of trimming that has to be done but well worth the money...i thought part of the overheating fix was switching to a lbz radiator???

Are LB7 injectors that big of a deal ? every one i know has LB7's and other than every once and a long time needing to be replaced , my dads truck has 140k on it and it has only had tyhem replaced once at 120k or so . I have heard the "war story's though " " I have had to injectors every 10 k " I just havent seen it on well taken care of trucks :confused:

i think the lly issue is probably cheaper to fix then if you have to replace the injectors on a lb7. granted most are still under warranty but some are starting to run out, when the warranty is gone they can be expensive after that.

:DLBZ all the way. Programmer to programmer more HP potential. Tranny holds up alot better also. If not get the LB7 run a good fuel addative and you will be alright with the LB7. Not a fan of the LLY to much money to make them fast as an LBZ or7

What are you talking about?.... what do you have to do different for an LLY that you do LBZ or LB7... Out of the gate the LBZ/LMM carry that extra horsepower over in a tune only application. The recipe for a mid to high 11 truck is the same for any year? for 10's Pat has posted the recipe... GT4202 or S400, or twins, dual CP3's and an EFI Live tune(of course including the BPU)

Running a fuel additive will not make the LB7 injector problem dissolve...

The LLY does have the most restrictive induction system.

But it does not mean a loss of 50hp and serious fabrication either. Swap in LBZ runners, and an LBZ or custom y bridge and the majority of your issue is solved. Guys have ran 10's in LLY's before Paul:D

Really? I didn't know that:spit: Just pointing some things out for someone that doesn't want to get "hardcore"

You can push a LLY pretty far but my statement remains true, an LLY has the most restrictive induction system .:D

All I am saying is that we have trucks around here with 200k on them and have ran addative in the tank since day one and no injector failers. Not wanting to start a pissing match. Just saying I would look at an LBZ also. STOCK FOR STOCK a better motor for basic bolt ons. Tranny holds up better, better CP3, 6 speed tranny. For an all out hotrod or puller I say LB7:D
