Looking for leaking injector on a lb7 --WHAT THE?

Hi Guys,

I have the top cover off and am looking for a leaking injector or return rail.

I have done this on 3 other trucks, But this truck is different.

It is shooting oil everywhere! All over the outside of the engine, all over the injectors, it is very hard to see a leaking anything with this amount of oil. There is a river pooling against the lower cover, and what a mess.

The oil pressure at idle is 40lbs.

All the other trucks I have done this on had very little oil, an no oil shooting out.... worse that an early small block chevy with a high pressure , high volume pump.

I tried laying a strip of cardboard across the top of the rockers and it keeps most of the oil in the engine but even more streams over the injectors.

Anyone seen this?

I had my vc's off while running cold at 70psi oil pressure and didnt do that.lower vc still on?edit...saw top vc only,strange!

Yes lower is still on. I have never seen this either.

Thats odd. Is the oil still thin from diesel? If it is i wonder if changing it would help.

Thin oil and over filled will do this. Best to change oil then run it

I drained the oil again, it had more diesel than I thought, it should be easy to find a leak this big.

Will post if the oil calms down or not when I run it again.

Could it be you are pressurizing the crankcase from a bad piston or cylinder or intake valve?

Best way to check your returns to see if they are sealed is to vacuum check them. Check this thread out.

the diesel in the oil is what made the oil shoot everywhere. I did not realize that much diesel would get in the oil in just 7 miles of driving.

Problem was a cracked injector.
