What's up guys? I am currently looking for advice. I won't be purchasing a truck until the first of next year. I'm just looking to learn as much as I can and to figure out which Duramax will be best for me since I have never owned a diesel before. So any input on what model and engine would be great. It won't be used to tow much. Just a daily driver. With maybe a little power. Thanks in advance

Which size truck? You don't really have option. The baby duramax in the colorados or the duramax in the full size 2500/3500 trucks.

Model is all up to you. Body preference and how much youre willing to spend on creature comforts.

Oh yea if you buy a used one keep in mind that just a set of injectors will cost what a whole engine will in a 1/2 ton.... almost, if don't need a diesel and are tight on funds, BE CAREFUL

Same engine size 6.6 from 2001 to current. In your cause a Colorado diesel might be the best option. Good mpg. Great commuter. Especially since you don't tow or anything. Or a gas truck

I've been doing some research and I guess I don't need one. But I have always really wanted one. I know the engine is a 6.6 but I know they have changed over the years and I can't afford new

The 2004.5 model year and newer trucks have less injector issues, but they still go out eventually. And like Digmax said, a set of injectors is more than a whole 5.3L gas motor costs...

Diesels are cool, but if you are tight on funds, I honestly recommend getting a gas truck and a turbo or supercharger kit. It will do everything (except towing and fuel mileage) better than the diesel for a fraction of the price.

Just be aware of what you are getting into. If you are mechanically inclined, a 2001-2004 is a good choice, get them cheap with bad injectors, and change them yourself. I like the 2003+ because they redid the electrical system and made it more reliable (IMO). But many prefer the looks of the 2001 truck.

Thanks for the advice. I am mechanically inclined and I will have another vehicle to drive in case the truck goes down. So I feel like it will be okay. I have just always liked the idea of a diesel truck and would love to own one. And learn.
