hello fellas
New to the site and have been searching the web for a good write up and consolidated info on Allison trans builds but no luck. I am not only in search of this info for my self but have come across tons of forums with guys asking lots of questions about trans builds and I am trying to get come consolidated info for all to use as reference material. I am also wanting to do my own suncoast build due to slipping in 2nd and 3rd on EfI 100hp tune and to save some dough.

Any info from guys that have been there and done that and know the do's, dont's, goods and bads would be greatly appreciated. Ive heard suncoast sends directions with there kits but ive also heard that its not the kit its the builder that makes the trans hold the power, with that being said do the professional builders go by the directions or is it done differently? If the suncoast directions were followed to a T would it be as good as a builders trans?

Again any info would be appreciated.

Usually ends up being rebuilt by a professional. Run of the mill Trans shops ruin Allisons all the time.

They don't use the instructions. The build is customized for your purpose. That said, no builder will give out their secrets.

Thanks that looks like a pretty good write up.

yeah I realize that is the way they make their living and it is understandable not to give away your secrets.

^^^ what he said... There's a lot of different things that a TRUE performance Allison builder does to mk them hold the horsepower/torque a Duramax puts down and their secrets n tricks are what makes the difference and keeps it shifting n performing like it should. Experience is the key n something that is needed. I'm sure if ur good with a wrench you would have no trouble building it with a good write up but would prob b best to let a reputable shop build it. I know u wana save money but will mostly likely end up costing more in the long run esp if u really crank up the HP!!! That being said.. There are several members on here who have built their own and have had good luck and are proud the built there own. You may b one of those guys n if so then go for it man. Just know that if u build it n have a prob with it shifting or holding the power ur gona b the only one who knew what's been done on the inside...

I was really looking towards having the satisfaction of having done it myself and learning how to but it seems much more involved than just taking the trans apart and installing new parts. Like stated earlier what if I put it back together and it doesn't work right or blows its self up then I would be out the price of a kit and probably still have to pay some one to do it (or set my truck on fire). when I was in the military I was right down the road from Diesel Addictions but now I am back home in GA and don't know of anyone who would have the skills and reputation to get it done right. Im not saying there isn't any one in GA incapable of the task I just don't know of any shops local to my area.

was also considering getting a used trans off of craigslist that way my truck wouldn't be down for very long. But again Im unsure of what trans would bolt right up except for an 05 lly. Ive found plenty of 6 speeds and a 5 speed out of a 8.1 tow truck but unsure if it would fit or if the electronics have to be changed. just scared to buy a trans and end up with a 300lb paper weight.

I really appreciate all the input from you guys

Would have to b a 5 speed.. 6 speed won't work in an 05 without a very expensive electronic upgrade. Lol

Sorry it has taken so long to reply back I had to run out of town for a little bit. since last on here my parts guy at the dealership I work at found me a used tranny for a decent price (I think) to put in so my truck wont be down for long. The tranny has 140k on it and comes with a 12mo parts and labor warranty for 1400. I plan on having my old one built by some one or I may mess with it since it wouldn't be my only trans I have. I'm really leaning towards a suncoast kit but there are a few different ones and Im not really sure of the differences. I'm not looking for mad HP just somewhere in the 5 to 600 range.

thanks again for the reply's
