I'm lost...

I realize that the V2 under the temp settings wants to read a ungrounded K Type thermocouple (I use this for monitoring my EGT).....

I would like to monitor my oil temperature, although my duramax does not stock have an oil temp sensor in the truck.
There's a great place already tapped and plugged to put one in I can't for the life of me figure out how to get it logging what I want it to log...
I'm using an Autometer 2 prong gauge sender and when I plug it into the 'temp1' (or temp2) input of the V2 and it thinks it's 800C.

I would like to be able to BBL this, but, I understand I can't have custom things in the BBL - Other than buying a KType thermocouple how would I go about this?

I haven't got the Thermocouple functions in EFILive to work right. Maybe someone has, but not me.

Most oil temp sensors are ohms. You need to run a voltage controller chip and resistor to change it into 0-5v. This is cheap, but requires some experimentation. I think I did a writeup on it a couple years ago.

Alright, I'll start searchin' Thank you!!
So am I reading it right that my EGT probe is off?

I'm pretty sure my AutoMeter oil temp probe is a 0-5 volt sending unit.

Two leads coming out of the top right? Black connector, purple and grey wired?

800*C would mean a bad connection or open circuit. Reverse your leads.

I tried to reverse my leads, maybe i have a bad sender... it'll move, but, but in the open air ir goes from 800 - 820 ish, when I put a small butane powered torch near it the reading dropped instead of rose... that's what keeps throwing me off..

Ya. I may have to go back and look at my information. I'm using it with a gauge and not trying to log it so I never really looked into it that much.

Thanks Josh! I guess I'll give the 0-5 volts a try... I just need to read up on how they work... LOL.
I have no idea how to configure this pest, and autometer doesn't list any values per voltage/ohms....:(

Ok, I looked at everything I could find, but I saw nothing indicating it was 0-5 volts. I think I was thinking about some fuel pressure gauges I was looking at.

Thanks for looking Josh!

Mike, i'm going to see what i can find about the voltage inputs tomorrow, thanks for the link; I've got no idea how to use them so I need to do some reading!

Thanks fellas!!

I could never get the EGT gauges to work,Not sure if a oil temp would be any better?

We could never get any readings from the back of the gauge even with a volt meter??

I know for efilive you have to have a UNGROUNDED EGT probe, or else the minute it touches the truck the reading goes dead...

I've had no luck though so far, I think I'm going to look into ordering: http://www.omega.com/ppt/pptsc.asp?ref=TC-NPT&nav=

I've just wrote them asking about the 'refresh' rate - or the rate that the sensor detects change in temperature. I had a SPT thermocouple and compared to the Autometer it LAGGED BAD.
