Any tips for R&R the factory turbo. I've done one on my LLY and it wasn't bad, but it looks a lot more cramped on the lmm. I'm not really looking forward to it...

I did my 2nd lmm turbo the other day.. I pulled the trans.. I'm sure it's possible without doing it but I wasn't up for it.

You CAN but why fight it all day and get 3 different shades of pissed off and hands and arms all chewed up when the Trans is so easy to remove it will almost remove itself!! 1 hr, easy

I get what your saying. I just don't have a good place to work on it now. I will be doing it by myself in the driveway. I'll try it without dropping the trans. If it doesn't go well I'll drop it.

If there's no egr on the truck and the turbo has been of before I don't see an issue with pulling one with out pulling the trans. People do it all the time. There's not a lot of room and the factory up pipe bolts are stupid tight. You'll need to have your ac evaced and then pull the like from the compressor to the dryer.

Can't you just unbolt the compressor and flip it up and over and lay it on the pass. Side battery to keep from having to evac it? Or does the line still get in the way too much?

Line won't bend that way on those trucks, it's got to much metal line in it..

Unless I just was lazy and didn't try

I had my buddy hold up my compressor, it will fold over pretty far but I didn't want to risk it. My heat shield had been gone for awhile, and once the downpipe was off I loosened all of the up pipes from the pass side fender and laying on top. Removing the turbo was pretty easy I did rip the small coolant lines, who cares. As for the pedestal bolt when I dropped a socket and extension down next to the turbo it fell right on it. Easy to do in your drive way in a couple of hours drinking beer.

Thanks for all the input guys. I'll probably start on it tomorrow if the rain holds off for a while.

Well this one went a lot better then the last ones. I changed out in 1.5 and the bolt at the manifold was rusted so bad the head was partly gone and had to use one of those craftsman strip bolt remover sockets. worked awesome.

Lmm chargers can be a pain in the ass. Go back with an lb7 up pipe and life is much easier. I have had to wrestle the dipstick tube with a long prybar and won. They can be a pain. Easy way is to install a t4 pedestal and ditch the stocker. Its kinda tough now with everybody loving Marks 68 stg 2 r vgt though.

the LMM charger can be removed without jacking the cab up some? I haven't done one yet but it looks bad. must have to take the bridge out and come forward with it?

I used to like pulling cabs off 6.0's and 6.4 and then a did several LB7 and did injectors that way, I like pulling Duramax cabs a lot better now. They are easy.
