Well the wife and a friend had a wreck a few weeks ago. A lady failed to yield and turned if front of them, the wife hit her broad side @42mph in my LMM and the airbags did not deploy and there is a recall on them.

But I also think that the tow hooks prevented enough damage to set the sensors off JMO.
But the wife's back is jacked up from no airbag to help as she was the passenger

The Honda Civic that they hit did not fare too well.

Oh and on top of that the lawyer and Dr's sent her to a chiropractor and first adjustment the Dr/chiropractor broke 2 of my wife's ribs. Now I'm not sure if we need another lawyer for the lawyers Dr.

And the wife just had a total knee replacement and was fixing to go to therapy for it.

Poor woman just can't get any good luck.

Sorry about her accident.

I don't think the recall on the airbags has anything to do with them not deploying however. Something about moisture and the thing rupturing upon deployment and shooting fragments.

The recall letter they sent out is kind of funny. Basically said... "Dear truck owner. Your airbag might shoot you in the head and kill you. We don't have any replacement parts, just keep driving it as normal."

Thst doesn't apprear to have enough damage to warrant ait bag deployment. Sorry she got hurt, sounds like shes had a tough time. Why are yall instantly going to an attorney? Did the other driver not have insurance? Sometimes those types of attorneys aren't interested in your well being, just their wallets...

If you look at the front tag bracket its untouched, the sensor is behind it on the bottom of the core support, there was no chance it was gonna go off. Worked at the dealer a long time and never seen anything for a recall on the airbags. Sorry for the damage and to hear about your wife. It will all pan out.

Wow, glad they are ok. The way I understand it with the recall, its a good thing it didnt deploy. The recall is for sending metal shards into your body during deployment.

EDIT! Just noticed that Osubeaver pretty much said the same thing. Sorry!

I said the same thing about the damage. The impact sensor is an enertia based sensor, so it doesn't have to get hit to set it off, but it doesn't look like enough damage to the front end for there to have been enough enertia to have triggered both sensors(the external frame mounted ones and the one inside the ABS module). As to why he got an attorney, in this day and age it is the single BEST thing to do. I know in Florida without one you're pretty well wrote off and told tough sh!t!. I've been through a few wrecks(here I am 14.5 years later, and barely able to walk), and one thing I have learned is NEVER go to there doctors for treatment. ALWAYS look for competent doctors on your own before seeking treatment. GOOD attorneys will most of the time reccomend you see one of there specialists for an evaluation, but that is where it ends. If they send you to somebody for treatment, it is normally done to help pad the attorneys pocket that is doing the reffering. I would say it is time to find another attorney, and get a 2nd opinion. Unfortunately you will be on the hook for the 1st attorney since they have invested time into your case, and they will most likely put a lien against you in case you collect anything with another attorney.

The seat belts did catch, but after some slack. It's damn if you do and damn if you don't thing with that air bag. But not much damage to my truck, but that Honda Civic was totaled and if there would of been passengers they probably would of got killed. Broad sided them @ 42mph. Their passenger doors was pushed in to almost half way of their car.. Most accidents I don't fool with lawyers, but this 1 was too bad not 2 cover our ass and my wife's back is jacked up. Fingers/hands numb and sharp pains going down both legs and feet. She will be seeing Dr's for a little while. Had mri and see what we do in a week when she sees her Dr.

But I think the Tow Hooks May of prevented enough damage to set the airbags off.

The airbags going off has nothing to do with any sensor getting hit. The Airbag Control Module ACM measures the change in velocity (delta V) over a certain amount of time in milliseconds. If the crash met the delta V programmed into the ACM then you get airbags, if it didn't then you don't get airbags. You need a Bosch CDR tool to plug into the DLC / OBD to download the data. Unfortunately, you will probably need an attorney with access to an accident reconstructionist to get one. It will tell you any ACM malfunctions, your delta V, your precrash speed in MPH out to -5 seconds, your precrash braking out to -5 seconds, if seatbelts were in use, and possibly precrash steering out to -5 seconds. I reconstruct serious traffic accidents for a living and have for 20 years. Sorry about your truck and your wife.

It's been 4 or 5 yrs since my investigator days but I thought GM used their own system? I don't remember using the bosch cdr on GM's.

I would reach out to the local NHTSA office and see what they have to say. They might even send a rep out to do an investigation and it won't cost you anything.

GM does make their own ACM system. The Bosch CDR tool is just the device that connects with the GM airbag control module. Every car manufacture has their own ACM system that is compatible with the Bosch tool to download information. To my knowledge, Bosch is the only tool in use and it is compatible with every manufacture that us currently making ACM's.
