ROTELLA 15W40 is an EXCELLENT oil. I know some don't like it from an oil test done a decade or so back, but it is still one of the most widely used oils in diesel engines, and you just don't hear of problems with it. I also use it in my air cooled lawnmower engines because of the higher zinc content over regular s rated oils today. I switched to the T6 5W40 because my BURB uses group 75 instead of group 78 batteries, and it turns over better when it's down around freezing with the T6 in it. That was how I found out it did away with the tick.

I remember reading somewhere that certain oil and filter combinations create a louder tick than others. Rotella 15w-40 with a Delco filter was the most reported combo and that's the only time I would hear it. I don't hear it with a Mobil 1 filter.

My LBZ did it after oil changes
I heard it most often when I would go through drive thru restaurants where the sound was bouncing off the walls
GM has a service bulletin regarding this
I will try and dig it up

TX of course
Duramax's are the most tolerant diesels I know if... they'd run on friggin' Wesson oil.. its that all you had.

Name ONE truck that ever had a lubrication issue on Rotella?

:screwy::screwy::screwy:

Over 200k on Rotella with 3 different engines no issues with it? What's wrong with it?

Never a problem using RotellaT. Used it in all my engines. Have one with 450k on it and running strong.

Damn I struck a nerve.... Rotella shears faster. I have been watching oil analysis on trucks and equipment for the last 12 years. I would never run it in HEUI. I have oil samples from my Dmax since day one and Rotella wore out the fastest. Delo went 16K and so has Delvac, but Rotella was done at 12K. Im not saying its junk there are just better oils out there.

Yes the dmax in one of the easiest engines on oil I have ever seen.

200K on a diesel is nothing. We have had equipment in our fleets with 40K hrs on them...not that they haven't been overhauled.

I change every 5000 miles either way.

Never heard my LMM, my last LML or my new LML tick ever. My 2016 has 7,420 miles on it and I changed the factory fill oil at 600 miles with Delvac and a Mobil 1 M1-303 filter. The truck didn't tick new, it didn't tick after that first oil change but after having the dealer change the oil yesterday at 7.400 miles with Delvac and an AC Delco filter, the truck is ticking so loud it's obnoxious when standing outside the drivers door. When I first heard it I knew what it was from reading stories on the forums about it but it still is bothersome when you contemplate what's causing it. I'm sure it will go away with some mileage on the oil change but after I run out of free oil changes from GMC, I'm switching back to my M1-303 and Delvac or Delo as I didn't have the tick with that filter and I can get Delo by 3 gallons for $30 right now at Costco.
