Lml delete

So I just purchased a 2014 2500 lml. Was lookin in to doing the egr delete. Was told I need a programmer and any delete I do to get use to staring at a check engine light. Is this true.

Black electrical tape is a hell of a lot cheaper than a tuner. Just saying.
