Okay makes since, so since the pressure on the pre 11 models is actually lower when the converter locks do you think that will cause issues with slipping? My truck seems really sluggish and likes to smoke when the converter is clocked at highway speeds and you try to roll into it to pass someone. . Seems like I have to give it 75% throttle or more to get it to unlock and down shift and then I'm so heavy on the throttle it just takes off like a bad outta H*ll. Will a looser converter such as an LML convert help with that or make it worse? Again thank you all for the help! This forum rocks!

The lower pressure in the early trans can cause issues if you run a lot of power. 130psi won't hold clutch packs very well. In your case, you may have engine tuning issues.

A looser converter will change nothing about how the truck drives when the converter is locked.

Okay cool, I'm fixing to order my LML converter but I've got one last question then I'll quit bothering everyone :roflmao: All im running now in my LBZ is EFI live with my biggest tune being 150HP , a transgo jr and a airdog lift pump. Will I have any issues with the LML converter at my power level? I do plan on adding more power in the future but will being doing a fully built trans when I do my other mods!

You should be ok. You will need to upgrade the LML converter when you raise your power level.

If I were you, I would at least shim the main pressure spring and modify the lockup valve for increased pressure while you have the transmission out to install the converter.

Not entirely sure what all that would consist of or what exactly it all means :roflmao: I'll discuss it with my buddy thats installing my converter. He's built many Allison's so I'm sure he will know exactly what you're talking about! Thanks again for everyone's help and suggestions!

Whats converter did you end up going with?

I went with a Transtar A7XL which is a lot tighter than stock, TC works extremely well towing with lower gears,

while I have no first hand experience, there's guys that are running similar low stall from DPC with stock gears and 30-33" and they love them.

I have had really good success with the AL7X for daily drivers. Especially for the price.

I have one LMM on 20x12, 35's. 3794, 3100pw, maintains 25kpsi rail, 280psi line, no knock down, supporting mods(would have to double check PW but it is a hot tune). It's a daily driver, single tune. Haven't slipped the converter yet. Provided the converter is locked, the truck does well. No trans tune or lock up box, WOT it won't lock till top end of 3rd.

Just throwing out my experience with the recon/transtar low stall. Not the right converter for this application, but is impressive for a cheeeeeap converter :woott:
