LML Converter in LBZ safe?

So I've got a 2007 LBZ with 117k miles on it. My torque converter is slipping into roll into it while the converter is locked and it shutters pretty good when it locks up at 60 when doing a WOT run. I'm running EFI live by a guy on here named Quinton schwertner and I have a airdog lift pump and that's it. Not making huge power at the moment. I know it would be smarter to just build while it's out but unfortunately that's not in the budget right now and won't be for awhile. I can get a brand new LML converter from GM for $375. So my question is 1. Will a LML converter bolt right up to my LBZ and 2. Will it be safe for my trans to run a LML converter. I'm open to all input or suggestions on any other rout I could take! Thanks alot!

So how much better is the lml converter compared to previous years?

Obviously not a replacement for a built trans and triple disk, just curious how much better say in a tired lbz with a small tune, would a lml converter and transgo make a, upgrade that's worthwhile?

The LML converter has a 2 sided clutch disc and a big roller clutch and sprag. Pretty good converter for anything under 800 ft lb of TQ. Anything above that will start breaking the clutch lining off.

Thanks Mike, I wasn't aware of that. I try to stay away from the trans stuff but this peaked my interest.

How does it drive compared to a stock LBZ/LMM converter? Is there anything comparable out there in the $400 price range you'd ever use instead?

The Transtar a7x I put in this spring is still on point..got 60,000 Mike's of heavy towing, and 250.00 after core return.. quite pleased with it..
I'm doing 400/800 at the tires

Transtar

I put a Transtar in my dually because the stock LBZ was slipping under load. The Transtar is not as bad but was doing it also. The tune was probably around 400 at the tires also. I put it back to stock and all is good now until I can try my first tranny rebuild. Then I will put in a good triple disc and call it done. Does it ever end? lol I wanted to leave the tow truck alone.

So excuse my ignorance but I'm kinda new to the trans slang! When you say the LML converter is a little "looser" compared to others what does that mean exactly? Also when you say it's good to 850 ft lbs at what apply pressure is that? The 80 psi LMLs run at? Seems like I remember someone saying the older 6speeds ran a higher apply pressure? So in theory more apply pressure sure hold better? But I don't know much lol! Again if anything I have said is ignorant or stupid I apologize! :roflmao:

"Looser" means the converter couples less and multiplys more torque. It will actually feel loose, as in engine will rev a little higher than it would as opposed to a tighter converter that couples well. As for the apply pressure, Mike or Evan will have to answer that one.

The LML converter was intensionally made looser as GM was afraid it wouldn't spool the turbo at high altitudes.
As far as pressures in the converter; pre '11 would drop pressure from about 230psi to 130psi when TCC applied. '11 and later will spike the pressure from 80/90 psi to about 200psi for a second during TCC apply and drop back to 80/90 psi.

Okay makes since, so since the pressure on the pre 11 models is actually lower when the converter locks do you think that will cause issues with slipping? My truck seems really sluggish and likes to smoke when the converter is clocked at highway speeds and you try to roll into it to pass someone. . Seems like I have to give it 75% throttle or more to get it to unlock and down shift and then I'm so heavy on the throttle it just takes off like a bad outta H*ll. Will a looser converter such as an LML convert help with that or make it worse? Again thank you all for the help! This forum rocks!
