That would make things a lot easier!!!
IN theory it might very well work. I dont know. The other main hurdle is glow plugs. The LLY GPCM is a completely computerized solid state device. It constantly speaks with the [LLY] ECM over the high speed CAN bus. The LB7 GPCM isnt really a "control module" at all, its just a big relay like the "old school" diesel glow plug systems.
So the LB7 ECM obviously woudlnt talk to an LLY GPCM. Will LB7 glow plugs bolt into LLY heads? You would have to make a custom glow plug controller. It would have to consist of a BIGG resistor (to drop 12volts down to 4.7) and a big heavy duty relay. The LB7 ECM then triggers the relay when it wants glow plugs. You would probably have to do some tests outside the truck to see how long it takes the LLY glow plugs to heat up with your "ghetto" GPCM. Then adjust the glow plug operating time in the LB7 ECM tune.
Waid send a PM to Fingers. He would probably be the best person to ask in regards to seeing if an LB7 ECM will drive an LLY FICM.
