I'm wondering how one goes about checking to see if the rear axle breather vent is functioning properly. I pulled the breather hose off the diff and ran air through it and it breaths but what about the nipple going into the differential? How do I check if that is clear. I blew a small amount if air into it and it didn't seem right. Is it a kne way deal? Thanks

What makes you think it isn't working?

I looked through my GM service manuals for a bit, but couldn't find anything indicating if there is a check valve. I think it is just a nipple.

Yea a nipple on the actual differential and a hose going up to a cap. Breathable cap btw. Obviously lol but I replaced a leaking pinion seal and it's still leaking. The pinion yoke might be to blame there. But I wanted tk make sure the vent wasn't clogged.

Oh I see what your saying, you check to see if it was free flowing, with the amount of air I put in I doubt it filled it with air. It seems plugged

Pull the fill plug and see if air comes out when you blow through the hose.

Yea I just thought of that haha. I will tomorrow and see what I get. If that isn't the problem do they have sleeves for these rear yokes?

Had an issue with axle seals blowing out....found my breather tube had slacked down a bit and had gotten stopped up with lube. Fixed that and no more blown seals.
